Norwegian language

rosaliasousa

hellow everyone here
my name is rosalia. i am portuguese. i came to oslo last month. i want to join the norwegian language classes. i registered for language couse porvided by commune. but thing is , but they didnot tell me when the classes would start. they just told me to wait for some kinda letter. so i am thinking about some private language schools. if u know some good school with reasonalbe fee, i would really appreciate. and how long does it take to master norwegian.

the other thing i want to ask is, i am experienced waiter. i have worked 10 years serving in restuarant and hotel. i can speak four languages, english, spanish, french and a little of german. where do you think i should look for waiter jobs. is there any restaurants around where i can work without the norwegian language.

Rosa: I suggest you go to

There is also:

Both of these are in Norwegian, however you could type in a keyword search such as "Portuguese" or "English-speaking" and see if there are any suitable jobs for you at all at the moment.

You can also type in "Spanish" if you speak that language.

The idea is that any job descriptions containing those words are relevant to you, e.g a Portuguese-speaking call centre agent?

I typed in Waiters and I see there is 1 job post entirely in English regarding waiters, and it is an Asian cafe / restaurant in Bergen and they write that it is an advantage if you have knowledge of the Norwegian language allthough they dont put it as a requirement.

Rosa: You could also study a bit - it is free in Norway, perhaps at the university? They do have a couple of English taught courses in Norway allthough the majority are in Norwegian.

many thanx for the quick reply...

i already called the university and they told me that they provie the norwegian classes just for persons enrolled in bachelor programs. so its not for me. rather i would prefer some sort of language school. i think i will learn fast there. could u please hlep me find some school near oslo.
now a days its getting very difficult to find a job in norway if u dont speak norwegian. thats why i am giving more importance to language. and i would like to ask you one more question...
is it possbile to do some technical courses here in norway like... hair parlour, hotel receptionist etc.. thanx in advance

Hello Rosalia and welcome to °µÍø½ûÇø! :)

Concerning the job, you can also post an advert in the section. It could help.

Thank you,

No, the university was not just for Norwegian language skills but also to upgrade your skills...

Remember Oslo has more than 1 centre for higher education:

Universitet i Oslo
Høgskolen i Oslo & Akershus

Then there is Høgskolen i Drammen 30 mins by train from Oslo

People can study at any age in Norway
