Changing address before your SEF appointment for the D8

Buzz 2023

Hello - I'm having to move out of my apartment before my SEF appointment on the 11th December, but my visa application is using the lease contract of my current place - has anyone had any issues with this or think it would be a problem? I'll be moving into a friend's place for a while so obviously won't have a new lease agreement yet.

Hi Buzz,

I am in a similar position. Nia Queiroz (Portugal Wizard) on this forum advised me that it is ok but we will need a contracto de comodato form.

I emailed Nia ([link moderated]) and she has said that they can help with this form and i will be arranging an appointment with portugal wizard to help me through the process. The rates are very reasonable.

Thank you :) Really appreciate your response!

So does this mean if you get your new accommodation host (in this case my friend) to sign the contractor de comodato and take it to your SEF appointment, you'll be ok?

No worries,

That is what I understand but I will be taking advice from Nia on it as I want it all to be correct. I have waited far to long for an SEF appointment (which I still don't have) to get it wrong!

How did you manage to get your appointment with the SEF?

I tried to update my address on my NIF and they responded " (Change for Resident - Foreign Individual Taxpayer), the change of address upon presentation of a Visa can only be carried out if, the document expressing interest or request issued by the registration platforms in use at SEF/AIMA" does anyone know what that means?

@deandragreen007,

This means that you first have to change your address on AIMA and then on the tax portal (portaldasfinancas). To change your tax address, you'll need to submit a scan of your residence permit issued by AIMA on the portaldasfinancas website.

Hi @JohnntPT

Hope you are well. I have a question and was hoping you would be able to assist me. So when I applied for the D8 visa I used a hotel reservation in Lisbon to be my temporary address. However, now after I got the visa and as I'm waiting to book my AIMA appointment and after I visited the country I managed to find long-term accommodation in Porto.

Now at this stage will that affect my AIMA appointment since it was already registered with them that my address is in Lisbon? also do i need to inform them when i call to book the appointment? or what should i do.

Hope you will be able to answer my question.

Thanks in advance

Mohammed

Hi Mohammed,

There's no problem because you don't have your residence permit yet. When you have your interview with AIMA, you'll need to have a residence so that you can give them your new address to be written on your residence card.

Hi @JohnntPT

Thanks very much for the detailed answer. It's very clear now.

Best regards,
