Expired residence permit & a portuguese baby

Dany Baydoun

Happy saturday everyone!

I have a very difficult case that I am trying to solve:

-My wife should hopefully deliver the baby around November 20.

-Our residency expires in December 2024.

We were planning to visit our parents in mid-jan after our residency gets renewed.

-we just heard that aima is going on strike and that they extended all residence cards till June 2025 for internal use only however we are not allowed to travel outisde europe and come back to portugal during this phase.

-I can't figure out a way to travel without jeopardizing my residency.

-I am not sure if they do exceptions because we need to be next to our parents in that phase

-I am not sure if the new baby can be a factor that can help us come back to portugal even if we don't have a valid residency.

-maybe there's a visa that we can apply to instead because our kid is portuguese?

Any tips from your end would be very helpful, thanks

Hi @Dany,

You're right to say that the extension of expired visas cannot be used for trips outside Portugal.

This is a very specific question and you probably won't get reliable answers here. You should go in person to any AIMA shop (even without appointment) or any CLAIM shop (probably easier than AIMA).
