It depends on how you have parameterised your contacts on the AT website. Normally at the FIRST stage, they will send you a provisional email saying, for example, that the declaration is correct (declaração CERTA) , or that there are discrepancies that you need to correct.

At the LAST stage of processing the declaration, they send you a formal letter by post with the settlement of accounts ( Notificação Formal ), informing you that you will receive x or you have to pay x until ddmmyy.

You can open a viaCTT account to be notified by email without having to receive a formal letter by post. This is good for people who don't live in Portugal all year round.

That's exactly what they wrote, 'your declation is correct' but I thought they would put that in the 'pagamentos a decorrer' in the portal das financas with the amount to be paid. Also, even more surprised because it's a Saturday. I have no idea how the parameters are set up since I gave that to my accountant, not really understanding how to navigate the portal das financas. I am afraid to make mistakes and create even more confusion since it's already confusing to me.

For instance, they have sent me the bill via the portal das financas for the IMI (1st instalment). I wanted to pay that in full but since it's more than 100 euros, it seems like I have to wait November for their 2nd bill, the other half.

You don't have to do anything, this email is informative only.

Here are the possible statuses of the IRS declaration:

1. Declaração Rececionada - A aguardar validação: A sua declaração foi entregue com sucesso e está na fila para ser processada pela Autoridade Tributária (AT).
2. Declaração Certa: A AT validou a sua declaração e não encontrou erros centrais. Seguirá para a fase de liquidação.
3. Declaração com Divergências: Foram detetadas inconsistências entre os dados que declarou e as informações que a AT possui. Neste caso, deverá ser notificado para corrigir ou justificar as divergências.
4. Em Processamento: A sua declaração foi recebida e está a ser analisada pela AT.
5. Liquidação Processada: A AT já efetuou o cálculo do imposto. Nesta fase, poderá ser apurado um valor a receber (reembolso), a pagar, ou um saldo nulo.
6. Reembolso Emitido: A AT já deu ordem para o pagamento do seu reembolso. O valor deverá ser transferido para a sua conta bancária em breve.
7. Pagamento Confirmado: O seu reembolso já foi pago pela AT.
8. Notificação Emitida: Este estado surge quando tem imposto a pagar. Significa que a nota de cobrança foi emitida e deverá efetuar o pagamento dentro do prazo indicado.
9. Declaração Não Liquidável: Em casos específicos, como a entrega de uma declaração de substituição fora do prazo legal, a declaração pode ser considerada sem efeito.
10. Declaração Substituída: Se entregou uma declaração de substituição, a declaração anterior terá este estado e não será considerada para processamento.
11. Liquidada com Saldo Nulo Emitido: Não há imposto a pagar nem reembolso a receber. As suas contas com o Estado estão equilibradas.
12. Liquidada com Nota de Cobrança Emitida: Foi apurado um valor a pagar e a AT emitiu a respetiva nota de cobrança.

With regard to IMI, you have 2 ATM references on the payment notice. One reference where you only pay 1st instalment) and the other reference where you pay everything for this year.

Interesting. Thank you. For the IMI, I paid at a Paystore with that 'Nota de Cobranca' and I guess I didn't see that second reference to pay the bill in full for the year. It's more convenient to pay it in full so you don't have to worry about it again in November.
