I would be grateful for advice on the quickest way to obtain an original vehicle registration certificate. I think one could request it online from IMT but i need to understand if it is quicker online or going to an IMT office instead. Any shared experience would be appreciated.

The quickest way to obtain the Documento 脷nico Autom贸vel (DUA) in Portugal is to apply online, using the Autom贸vel Online platform.

1. Access Autom贸vel Online:

If you choose online, you will need a digital mobile key. If you don't have one, you should ask for one or contact a Portuguese solicitor (*).

Access the Autom贸vel Online platform.

Authentication: Authenticate yourself with the Digital Mobile Key.

Filling in the form: Fill in the Vehicle Registration form with the data requested.

Payment: Pay the applicable fees (online, the cost is usually lower than in person). The initial DUA registration costs 鈧�46.80 online, while in person it costs 鈧�55.

2. In person: You can go to a Registry office (IRN) or a Citizen's Shop / Loja do Cidad茫o. However, this option may involve slightly longer waiting times and higher costs.

After the request, the DUA is sent to your address. The issuing time can vary, but it usually takes a few weeks. If it takes longer than 30 days, it is advisable to contact the Institute of Registry and Notary (IRN) or the dealer (if it is a new vehicle) to check the status of the request.
