US residents first trip to Portugal

dgvilsack

Hello everyone,

My wife and I are looking to move to Portugal. This will be our first trip.

We plan on staying in Lisbon, Porto and some place (to be determined) in the very south of Portugal. 2~ 3 days each to scope the areas out for neighborhoods, housing etc.

Looking for advice for the right places to visit for future °µÍø½ûÇøs.  Appreciate any info to make our first trip easier.

Hi and Welcome,

I'd suggest you spend at least months experiencing the various parts of Portugal before ever thinking to move your future here or not. A few days in a foreign (i assume it is foreign to you) space will not give you anything more then a facade of life here. You'll have no idea how places are different in different seasons, the lack of heating/air conditioning etc etc.  I know you have to start somewhere but seriously a couple of days, in my opinion,  in places is not a something to decide your future on.

Good Luck.

My move to Portugal was a bit unique in that I'd never been to Europe, came to Portugal with a move in mind focusing on the Algarve and bought an apartment in short order. I spent considerable time on Google Earth looking at coastal cities that had direct access to a beach. My goal was to be walking distance to the beach. Did some AirBNB nights and found what I was looking for in Albufeira. Less than a 10 minute walk to the beach, four grocery stores and a real city with year round residents. Being a tourist town virtually everyone speaks English. It's a bit of a rowdy town but I live far enough off the strip that it doesn't annoy me. It really all depends on what's important to you.
