Is it normal to wait over 7 months for AIMA appointment ?

Güngör Ates

I paid £379 instead of £397, which was my mistake. After I physically visited AIMA, they told me it was not a problem and that I just had to wait. Today, it has officially been more than seven months. I have received no response regarding my application status (on the website) and am still waiting for an appointment.

Is there any way to resolve this problem? Some lawyers have even told me that they cannot help with this issue.

Has anyone had a similar issue and can recommend anything? I am fed up of waiting.

Are you paying for the "manifestação de interesse"?

AIMA has already treated almost all of these pending cases ( = manifestação de interesse).

I don't think you should wait any longer.

Instead of dealing with lawyers, emails or phone calls, it's best to go in person to an AIMA office.  Go early to get an attendance ticket (without prior appointment) for the same day. They usually attend aprox. 14 people/day without appointment. The amount you have to pay is ridiculous, but it could lead to a huge problem...

That's what I'd do if it was me.

Hello all

Aima appointment

I fully understand the anxiety the lack of response from AIMA causes. I waited 18 months for a appointment that I’ve just completed last month all is good with the world again I have a little balance back in my life.

It is frustrating to do, I was sending emails 3, 4 and five times a week, on average 100 calls a week, I visited AIMA received a appointment but when your told you can get a appointment it not the appointment to receive your visa. It’s a appeasement appointment.

I  visited Tavira & Faro office a few times during my appointment wait, so I went to Faro and was told that all appointments had gone for the day, I asked what time the office opened so I could secure one of the appointments for that day, was told 8.30,

so I decided to turn up at 7am left my home at 6am there was already 24 people in front of me amazed at the desperation this drives people too. I secured a ticket and eventually I got to a desk the lady took all my details down on the computer and handed me a copy of the form she had completed, disappointingly it was the standard form that I had filled in myself the day before online, I said to her can I not make a appointment for my visa today obviously no was the answer, she said you just have to be patient and they will be in contact with you by email, just wasted 8 hours for nothing. Now l don’t know the internal working of the offices did it achieve anything I would say no because it was a year later when I received my appointment.

My reason for making this post today, is for all out there who are finding the lack of response from them and I’ve just been that person chasing everything possible and end up doubting myself that I haven’t done the thing that will get me in the door to my appointment. Stop chasing as you will not push them into giving you a appointment.

I’ve done everything including  lawyers and was told there is nothing to be done other than wait you will be wasting your money. In my opinion do yourself a favour and I know it’s difficult please accept you have sent the emails and called now and again keep the record that you have done all that I would say once a week.

Try some patience with yourselves and enjoy the process as it will  eventually come round to your turn, I wish someone told me to do it.

As I've already said here, this problem was caused by the previous government, which at the same time as it dismantled SEF (2023) and replaced it with AIMA, let in thousands of non EU immigrants in an unregulated manner. The current government wants to solve the 500,000 outstanding priority cases by June this year.
