Opening a Portuguese Bank Account

Hi, I know I need a tax number in order to open a Portuguese bank account - what else do I need? Can I get an account with proof of address in Spain or do I need an address in Portugal? Thanks!

You will need the NIF number to open your account, along with a passport/visa.聽 We opened an account with Caixadirecta and used our US address to open it, so I would assume that you could do the same with a Spanish address.聽 They mailed the debit card to us in the US.聽 I would definitely suggest taking someone with you that speaks Portuguese if you do not as it will involve lots of communication.聽 Once we had a permanent address here in Portugal, we just went online and updated the account information with no problem.

Yes hereiam35, you will need the NIF number to open your account, along with a passport/visa.

You also have this bank online in Portugal :

No card annual fees or account maintenance fees !

Yes y need a Fiscal Number in Portugal.... try a Spanish Bank that operate in Portugal , perhaps they allow with the Fiscal Number from Spain.
