Planning a move to Portugal in lockdown 🙃

happyhippy

Hello all,

I’m new to the Portugal forum, if I’m honest, I don’t think I have ever used a forum before 😄

So, Brexit, Covid and life in general has given us time to rethink and re-plan. We are from Liverpool, England and are planning a move to central Portugal.

I have worked in HR for a government body for 15 years and I am a complementary therapist. My partner, David, is a Cost Lawyer, recently qualified as a Barrister. We have 2 children, Molly aged 12 and Dylan is 8.

We have sold our city centre apartment and we’re looking forward to a more rural life in Portugal. Our budget is not massive so we are planning to buy a ruins with some land, build our home and possibly a future business.

I am studying interior design and I am really excited about the project, David doesn’t know which way is up on a hammer, so him not so much! We will definitely need recommendations for good, reliable, trades people?!

We’re looking at online schooling for Molly and a local school for Dylan, so we would really appreciate advice on how the local school system/admissions work?!

Thanks everyone.

Kate xx

Hi Kate, Welcome :)

(Post #7) You should not be limited only by a real estate agency/consultant or a house suggestion from any of the members of this forum.

Most real estate consultants in Portugal speak a good English. Ideally these links suggested here (or others you will find out), allow you to start your search, get an idea of what you want in terms of prices and locations, and only after that, you should contact one or more real estate agencies.

C. Youtube Channels: 1.OK Portugal, 2.Cindy Vine, 3.Our Portuguese Homestead, ...

You can always look for information about Portugal from these °µÍø½ûÇøs. In their most recent videos they usually answer the questions. In older videos it is likely that you will not get an answer. Why not try?

1. "OK Portugal": UK couple who bought a farm near Fundão, Center Portugal.

At this Channel, please see episode #35 Quinta do Ancinho -The Marsh Family Homestead who are originally from the UK. They described here why they moved to Portugal just over 5 years ago and bought a property there.

2. "Cindy Vine": Cindy bought a farm near Castelo Branco a couple of months ago, in Central Portugal. In her youtube channel you can see all the process involved she has passed through to realise her life project. This may help anyone who is searching answers in subjects like this one. She will have to do a lot of renewals there. All the process of buying a farm... pros and cons of each one, etc.

She also bought a ruins with some land, so this can be a similar case like you are looking for ;)

3. "Our Portuguese Homestead": Eco-sustainable life in the Center countryside with a young couple from Netherlands. She is a happyhippy too ;)
