I've seen that, collecting NIF number requires a person lives in Portugal to apply NIF Number. As I don't have any network in Portugal, how can I find someone to apply together with me? Does it come with any legal responsibility to the person that I bring? If not so, what is the logic behind of it?

I didn't live in Portugal but got my tax number (NIF) and PT bank account on my UK by myself.

Hi strontium
Can I ask how you got to open a PT bank account if you are in the UK as we had to open ours in person so before we moved over here we had to make a journey to PT from UK to open our bank account & that was in 2017, even now they request you do it in person.

Cheapday return to London appointment at offices Millenium BCP (other bank officers available) took requested paperwork, was served the best cup of (Portuguese) coffee in a splendid office whilst manager did the "onboarding". Debit card arrived at UK address a few days later.聽 Why would you do it an other way?
