Where to settle and What kind of work to start with in Portugal?

kunalmital

Hi / Ola,

Firstly I would like to take this opportunity of introducing myself to all the lovely people out here!

My name is Kunal and I plan to shift from India to Portugal with my family comprising of myself, my wife and my 2 children 10yrs and 13 yrs. respectively. I am a businessman here and own a restaurant in New Delhi, the capital of India. Apart from that I have a lot of experience in Liaisoning work with various organizations. My wife does high end recruitments for various multinationals here in India.

We are currently in the initial phase of our planning of making our jump and since it would be the first time we would be attempting such a life changing decision, your valuable inputs could be of great help in us making a knowledgeable choice. So following are a few points where any information from your end would help us:-

1) Which is the best part of Portugal to settle in initially considering it gives you good business opportunities, suitable for children considering their education and an overall a comfortable lifestyle?

2) Can anybody suggest which all businesses are feasible to start with initially with minimum investment? Some of the suggestions were opening a mini supermart, a mobile communication shop, a small cafe or a restaurant?

Looking forward to your valuable responses to carry our conversation forward.

Best regards,

Kunal.

Sir,

I'd suggest, if you are serious about relocating here,  then you need to spend time here to see whatever opportunities are available are suitable to you.   Many Portuguese are relocated elsewhere outside Portugal because the average income elsewhere is higher as are business opportunities. Here are 10 million people but 25% are in Lisbon and 22% in Porto so the rest are not in large conurbations but spread about and all have years of experience in running business (restaurants) in their local communities which you would have difficulty competing with.  The majority of non-Portuguese will be in the Algarve region but also this is seasonal tourist area so competition in high season but lack of custom in low season.
