Selling stuff when moving out of an apartment to another country

UrbanScribe

Good day!

I'm planning on going to another country and wonder how to manage all the things I've collected during my life in Portugal (Porto). It's not a lot, but I would prefer to get some money back or at least give them in good hands for free.

I have:

  • a few bags of cloth
  • a few pairs of shoes
  • small kitchen appliances
  • bigger electrical appliances (an oil radiator, a dehumidifier)
  • small things from IKEA (candles, etc.)
  • other similar things

I thought maybe there are specialized services / groups in Facebook that can sell it for you? Any ideas?

Thanks!

You might try OLX, which is an online sales marketplace. Then there might be outdoor sales where you simply show up and sell what you have out o the trunk of your car. And there might be places in Porto that help other fellow Ukrainians that will continue living in Portugal.

There are Portugesee Facebook groups with "market place" you can find by a search but in reality only things worth someone traveling to collect will go.

Hello UrbanScribe,

We had the same situation a few years ago in the Algrave, no one wants to buy our stuff, in the end we gave all clothes bedding etc to a charity, some small furniture gave to a friend the rest went to recycle or bin.... it is a waste in my opinion; also tried "car boot" sale, most people Portuguese or foreigners want our stuff for nothing they would ask for a hardly worn leather jacket for €5 .... beautiful bedside lamps for €2....now you look at all shops for everything you want to buy they are  over priced ... society problem.

Hope you managed to get some money for your things.

We made similar experiences during our many moves. Fortunately we traveled with a 20 ft container and didn't have to dispose of too many things. Interestingly it was easy to sell items from IKEA (e.g. Billy shelves). Maybe the price difference is easily visible and the product is well known.
