Mobile Phone - SIM or ESim

LivingRomania

Hi Everyone

I am in Romania (Bacau) and my mobile phone on 3 UK is costing a FORTUNE.

The contract is now ended and Ideally I would like to keep my UK number but I need an ESim deal in the UK which allows me to activate my ESim outside of the UK - in Romania.

The only alternative would be to ask the mobile provider to post me a SIM card here in Romania and then get my phone unlocked, insert the sim and then activate it - but a good few seemt to think that a SIM or ESim can only be activated in the UK (if you are signing up for a UK deal).

Maybe I should just get my phone unlocked and get a new number? I would have really liked to keep my UK number

Buy a new phone, that is dual SIM. Transfer your UK number to a PAY as You go like and get a Romanian Contract.

Keeping your UK number while using an eSIM abroad can be tricky since many providers require activation within the UK. One option is to port your number to a PAYG provider like GiffGaff, then use a separate local SIM for data and calls in Romania. If your phone supports dual SIM, that could be a good setup without needing to unlock it right away.

If you're traveling often or need an easy way to manage mobile recharges, especially in the UAE, you can also recharge Virgin Mobile via Paynet. It helps with quick top-ups and different voucher denominations, making it handy when abroad.
