Hi and welcome to °µÍø½ûÇø Baba668!

Maybe an introduction could help?
What is your status in Romania? Are you an °µÍø½ûÇøriate?

Theoretically you, as the spouse of an EU national, should have equal rights regarding access to employment, meaning you shouldn't be forced to apply for a work permit, assuming you have your residency/marriage papers in order.

The reality is that a lot of companies maybe be a bit hazy when it comes to the legalities and how to apply this and they may look on the process of employing you as a bit of a hassle and this could negatively affect your chances of getting a job, unless you have some specific skills which can't easily be found in Romania.

Anyway, once you've finished with the wedding stuff, start the process of applying for residency (you get a 5-year residency card) as this can take up to 6 months. I am sure you don't need your diploma for that.

If you can get your high school diploma, university degree, or any other qualification sent over, then it'll definitely help. For certain jobs, employers do want to see the qualifications, and if you do want to be employed in a professional position and do find you need a permit, you will need to have them translated, checked for equivalency, and apostilled.

I also have a feeling from what a friend told me (who works in HR) that salary is also linked to your highest level of education, so another reason to get your diploma. If you have a uni degree, though, I'd imagine you wouldn't need to bother with the high school dip.

You plan to stay in Sweden but you want to work in Romania, do I understand that right?  I'd stay in Sweden in a heartbeat if I had the choice, but that's another topic :)

Regardless, you don't need a work permit.  Once you're married and have your residency card, you're legal.  As Maykal noted, some companies might be unfamiliar with the laws, this happened to me actually.  I assured them I didn't need a work permit and pointed them to the laws that address this (The HR person is supposed to know these laws, go figure...) but they figured it out.

Maykal suggested the residency card can take 6 months to get.  That may be excessive.  I got mine in 30 days, and when I renewed it a few months ago, again it took only 30 days.

Why cannot you get your HS diploma?  I got mine while in Romania mailed to me.

Good luck.

Of course, we're all assuming that you're marrying a Romanian citizen and will therefore be the spouse of an EU citizen.

also have a look at OUG 194/2002  (applying to US citizens like yourself)
