should i move to scotland??

jules2610

i am an aussie who is currently travlling europe but due to visa complications for the friend i am travelling with within the EU, we are considering Scotland for a few months.

My main motive is to try and get a job to earn money - any job, not picky, need to make some money to continue to travel! so any advice you could give about the liklihood of getting a job (bar work, cafe, receptionist, cleaning even) (i have a UK passport), finding accomodation that is cheap for a few months - do hostels in scotland offer half board if you help clean rooms for example?

is the cost of living high?

im looking to find a town that will be lively for the summer and as warm as it can possibly get in scotland!

any advice would be so much appreciated!!

Hi Jules

I am in nz at the moment and after a year I am counting the months till I get out of here and back to Scotland.

I agree with Melissa.  Glasgow is usually better for finding cheaper accomodation, but be careful which area you choose.  Glasgow also has fabulour architecture.  Too many people wander around the city centre looking at the shops without raising their eyes to the true beauty above them.

Edinburgh has a great feel too, and both cities are only a short train ride apart.  Edinburgh at Festival time is fab.  But it requires at least a week to see it properly.

Mark downs in supermarkets at the end of the day are a must for anyone on a budget.  Oh how I miss late night shopping at Asda and coming home with a car full of cheap shopping, including bread and cakes for 10pence.

The other thing about Glasgow is that it is often easier to access many places from there, especially the west coast which is beautiful.

If you are only going to be in Scotland a few months, I would chose between these two.  Although there is Dundee, Stirling, Inverness etc., they probably won't have what you are looking for as a world traveller.

I hope you enjoy it and good luck.
