Cost of living in Slovakia

°µÍø½ûÇø.com

Hi everybody,

It would be very interesting and useful to exchange informations about the cost of living in Slovakia
. The idea is to help those who would like to live in Slovakia.
Don't forget to mention where you are living

Let's compare the:

> accommodation prices (how much does it cost to rent or to buy an accommodation in Slovakia?)

> public transportation fares (tube, bus etc ...)

> food prices(per month, how much does it cost you?)

> health prices (for those who need medical insurance)

> eduction prices (if you need to pay)

> energy prices (oil, electricity)

> common bills (Internet, television, telephone, mobile phone)

> prices of a good menu in a traditional restaurant

> prices of a beer or a coffee in a regular pub

Thanks in advance for your participation!

I too am interested in the cost of living in Slovakia and recently contacted distant cousins there.  I know in the Bratislava area, the gas is about $8.00 US.  You can find a flat for $500 - 650/mo.  The food I don't know, as many still keep gardens out of the city and grow much of their own food.  I will watch your blog to see what responses you get.
Thanks,
Carol

Hi,
I am from Bratislava and I would like to help you with rental prices of accomodation in Bratislava:)

Normal price for nice apartment in the centre of the town costs from 27,50 € - 35.30 dollars
to   55 €    - 70.60 dollars

One EURO is 1.284 dollars

So for one month rental (30 days) it would be
1,059 dollars -  2,118 dolars

Hope I helped:)

Hello,
I live in Bratislava and I was astonished when I moved here that I get a cost-of-living allowance from my company, since according to Mercer Consulting (see also mercer.com/costoflivingpr) Bratislava is on rank 30 of worldwide cities when it comes to costs. For comparision, Berlin is on rank 49!

What I find quite expensive compared to the average income are:
- Flats (70 m³ furnished appartment with all side costs between 900 and 1300 €)
- Telephone/Internet/TV combination: about 30 €
- Clothing especially from international brands cost the same as in all the other Euro countries

Quite cheep compared to e.g. Germany:
- Public Transportation: 0,5 - 1 €
- Lunch menues (special offer of the day) 3,6 €
- average meal prices for example for a Pizza: about 8 € (but there are of course more expensive places too)
- beer in a restaurant/pub: 1,2 to 2 €
- local brands in general (food as well as clothing)

Hey Southern-Sun,

Your post was very helpful. On average, what do you find the cost of groceries to be let's say, per week?

And in response to cost of living for all: I have been looking at furnished apt online (primarly using 4°µÍø½ûÇø.com) and have been able to find SEVERAL apts under 650 E, some even including utilities, in the old town center, and are all actually quite nice. Should I be concerned that this may be a gimmick or consider myself lukcy?

Does someone have information about apartments/flats for rent ??

Hi Lionela, :)

You should start a new topic on the Slovakia forum.

Thank you and good luck

Hi y'all!

I am new here and considering moving to Slovakia, Bratislava. So I was wondering how much would be enough for a decent living. I intend to live quite close to city center, preferably renting 1-2 room apartment. Cheers.
