Hello everyone, I'm planning to move to Mallorca

wholebeing77

Hello,

I live in NYC and am planning a move to Majorca in the next 1.5- 2 years (con mis gatos).

Happy to have found this site, as I've already found some potential good info here regarding shipping personal effects from the US to Spain.

I am not bringing furniture or large items. And I am already a minimalist, so I don't own too many things. But I will want to bring most of my clothes, my cats beds and toys/ bowls, some of my favorite books (maybe one full box), my bedding and yoga accessories (mat and blocks, very light), and just some personal items and things I've collected in my life that are important to me. The only sizable things being a few pieces of artwork that I'd like to find a way to ship (with or without the frames if they're too heavy).

I have heard there's a nice °µÍø½ûÇø community in Majorca- and some people from Brooklyn and NYC, which feels comforting.

So for now, just wanted to introduce myself and say hello!

Cheers

Congrats on your decisión to move to Mallorca! It is a beautiful island of many contrasts - mountains, beaches, interior villages, bustle ir tranquility, whatever your mood takes you. But I found the best way to enjoy life here to the full is through it's wonderful people who, although not as effusive as the andalusians, are welcoming and kind but with a wicked sense of humour so it's essential to speak Spanish but even better if you know their own language - mallorqui. So I would recommend classes in the year before you come so you can make plenty of local friends and maybe just rely on the °µÍø½ûÇøs when you're feeling nostalgic. This is a chance to enjoy new experiences (you're leaving life in Brooklyn for a reason!)

Your cats will love it - lots of sunshine to bask in and crickets to chase. If you ever want more, let me know as I volunteer at the local shelter!

Best of luck!

@jchilton

Thank you so much for your reply! I appreciate it:)

(How funny, my cats and I are listening to Youtube crickets and nature sound right now lol)

I am already studying Spanish, and I am so excited to speak it and meet lots of new people. Very happy to hear about the sense of humor! I could use more sunshine and laughter in my life- yay!

I am a bit worried about taking my cats so far- what an intense journey for the babes- but I'm sure they will settle i after a while. Is it quite easy to find a rental that will accept them? (What about furnished?)

Would love to know more about the shelter and if maybe you need volunteers sometimes? I love all animals.

So nice to meet you!
