Thinking about moving to Andalucia - Retirement

hmarino

We are US citizen bilingual couple planning retirement in Spain, particularly , Andalusia. We are looking for a friendly community, close to the Mediterranean sea, commercial outlets and groceries.
We want to know if living in Spain more than 6 months (as residents with non-lucrative visa) we have to pay taxes in Spain and USA or just in one country. Is there any reciprocal tax agreement between Spain and USA? How taxes in Spain compare to taxes in US?
Also, we would like to know if it would be better to rent or buy a property in Spain?
What should we know about living in Spain comparing to US, advantages and disadvantages.
Thank you in advance for your answers and feedback.

My husband and I are in a very similar position.  We're about 18 months away from getting ourselves on a plane. We've been researching these same issues and are always eager to acquire more information and hear different perspectives.

It's great you're both bilingual, a great advantage.  I'm fluent (to a great extent) and my husband has been learning steadily.

Look forward to hearing more of your preparations.  Mucha suerte!
