if someone speaks only english and they wanted to move to ukraine, russia, estonia, or any other former soviet republics, how would they go about communicating with the locals if they dont speak the local language?聽 what language barriers will they have???聽 how can they communicate with people in the former soviet republics if they only speak english???聽 can someone please tell me what should they do in this case?聽 rsvp.
You need to take a language course before you head to other countries. You can buy language phrase books which can help. There are language apps which you can use on a good mobile phone. In my travels I have found that if you smile, speak slowly and try, then locals will help even if you do mangle things vocally.
so if i only speak english i will have problems communicating with people in the former soviet union then?聽 what about people like edward snowden who is an american who lives in moscow?聽 assuming he speaks only english and no russian then how would he go about communicating everyday with people in the streets of moscow or any other soviet city whether in estonia, armenia, georgia, ect....????
I'm a bit wild so I would suggest learning "Thank you", "how much", and the numbers. Google translate will do the rest until you get into the swing. If you need toilet cleaner, condoms, anti bacterial cream, or whatever else, google up a picture and walk into the shop with your phone.
