American military member moving to Bahrain

aricr

Hello all, I am an American military member moving to Bahrain in July 2024. Interested in getting insights on places to live with a 7 and 4 yo (family community, access to playground/pool, etc). I will be working on the Naval Base (NSA) so would like to be within commuting distance. Right now trying to weigh whether to bring all my furniture or plan to get a furnished place. Budget is ~1300 BD max.

Also interested in recommendations on aything you wish you would have known before moving. What should I know that I dont even know to ask?

Open to any and all feedback! Thanks!

Where are your kids going to go to school?

If you work at the base and they will go to school there then the closest location possible is Juffair.   But it is mostly apartments whereas your budget can easily get you a villa.  You can find furnished apartments easily but Villas are not furnished usually.

@XTang, excellent, thanks! Yes, my kids will be attending the school on base. I am currently look at:

In Adliya:

-Kanoo

- Yateem (love but don’t think anything is available?)

- Al Mohameddia Gardens

- Hamed Gardens

- Umm Al Hassam Residence

- Delmun

In Amwaj:

- Tala

- Floating City

- Orca

Any insights on any of those options?

@aricr,  I am also relocating to Bahrain due to employment with a firm in Bahrain.  What companies are you considering to help move your household items to Bahrain? Thanks.

@XTang, do you know of nice schools in Bahrain that are affordable?  I am moving to Bahrain from  US and would like to start looking for the upcoming school year.

@aricr:  The Amwaj options are nice but you need to check if you are ok to manage the drive everyday,  The compounds in Adliya are closer but you really have to visit these and see - to get a feel for the community.   Also check with your base staff because as far as I know, not all buildings or places are cleared for navy to live in.

@aj767:  Depends on the curriculum and your definition of affordability :).    First check the quality of the schools from this site:

Outstanding rated schools are generally world class.   Then call them or visit the websites that they have.Â
