Living in Iran as a foreigner even possible?

Guest7925
Hello everyone,

I am Max and new to this forum. Currently I am doing my bachelor in anthropology and middle eastern studies with the focus on turkish and persian cultures. I speak persian at a pretty high level already and doing voluntarily translation. In the future i would like to become a professional translator or german language teacher.
I have a deep interest in Iran, persian culture and the people, and I would love to live there a few years working and immersing myself in the culture with the potential of setteling.
As far as I can tell from reading the very few information that are available it seems very difficult or nearly impossible for foreigners to settle and find a permantent job in Iran.
For example they write that foreigners only qualify for a job if no iranian citizen is available and if, that he/she should use his knowledge to teach iranians that could replace him after the work permit ends... So I can never really have a permant job?

I would really appreciate any information from you guys as the internet is a terrible ressource on that matter.
Best wishes,
Max

First you don't say what country you are from. It is impossible to answer your question unless if we know your citizenship. Some countries it is impossible to get anything besides a 14 day tourist visa without a tour guide, and some countries can freely travel to Iran without a visa, and without the need of a tour guide.

Write what country you have citizenship to, and then we can answer your question.

But if you are from USA, Canada, UK, Australia. You can forget about ever living in Iran.

Oh sorry, I forgot to mention that. I'm a German citizen currently living in Cologne.

Then as far as I know there is no restrictions stopping you from getting any type of Visa that you want to Iran. But be warned that Iran has been arresting foreign students, and tourists in Iran to try to pressure the European union to sign a deal with them, and to take sanctions off of them, and to also swap them for Iranian prisoners in Europe. They have already arrested multiple swedish, and french tourists in the country that where not dual nationals meaning they aren't Iranians.

@Randomguy2000 thank you for the information. Am a Nigerian trying to come to Iran, and my country is currently on visa free to Iran. My question is , can I visit other Iranian neighboring countries like turkey. Azerbaijan, Armenia through Iranian land boarders. I want to visit them as tourist too. Is there any border restrictions.

There are currently no border restrictions, but the visa rules are still the same. If you want to cross from Iran to Turkey, then you will need a visa, or your passport has to allow you to go visa free.

The same with Azerbaijan either you will need a visa, or your passport will have to allow you to go there visa free.

Looking at the visa map you will need a visa to every single around that borders Iran without expectation. The only country that will allow you to apply for an E-visa to it is Pakistan.

Back in October Iran closed the border between Iran, and Pakistan. But I think it is open again. I am not sure because the situation with Iran and its neighbors borders are always changing and depending on the political situation there a border may be closed off without warning. They also frequently close the border between Iran, and Iraqi Kurdistan. Also a few times a month Iran and Afghanistan also clash over the border which causes it to shut down for a few days. The same for Azerbaijan, and Iran since there is also sometimes border fights there as well.,

The only borders that I know that currently have no issues with Iran are the Iran and Turkish border crossing, and the Iran and Armenia bordering crossing.

But you will need a visa to both Turkey, and Armenia if you want to cross from Iran into those countries. Also be careful not to illegally cross to Turkey because it is reported by many asylum seekers, and others that the Turkish military is shooting at them while trying to cross the border illegally.

Also, the same situation in Azerbaijan as well that sometimes they shoot at people on the border if they think they are smugglers or trying to cross illegally.
