What are the dos and don'ts of finding a job in Qatar?

Priscilla

Hello everyone,

Where is the best place to start when looking for a job in Qatar? Is it better to job-hunt by directly contacting the company of your interest, or should job-seekers rely on a recruitment agency, for example?

Are there any unique aspects that job-seekers should consider when preparing their CV/résumé and cover letter? Should a photo be included?

Do you have any tips on interview conduct in Qatar? Are there any particulars, such as greetings or behavioural customs?

In you opinion, is knowledge of the local language or a regional language necessary to successfully apply for a job? What level of the language should job-seekers have mastered?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Dear Priscilla,

Thanks for an open discussion on the above subject, using myself as an example, when i landed here i did preliminary course on Arabic Studies at center for Islamic studies.Thereafter i started doing some curses related to my field, in the class we made some friends and informed them about job hunt and also inquired from those who are already practiscing here in thesame field of work. I prepared my CV hand delivered to some companies and did advert in the local news paper, i received some calls from companies for interview . Actually, i did interview with multiple companies at the end i choosed one amidst the companies.

This is as per my own experience.

Thanks & Regards.

Anthony.

In response to your specific question, permit  me to comment on the following :

1. Where is the best place to start when looking for a job in Qatar? Is it better to job-hunt by directly contacting the company of your interest, or should job-seekers rely on a recruitment agency, for example? = I did not have faith in recruitment agency because based on experience from friends, recruitment agencies will have an impact in your package because some of them will make profit from you. I advise people to make advert in local newspaper and direct submission of CV to companies related to your proffesion.

2. Are there any unique aspects that job-seekers should consider when preparing their CV/résumé and cover letter? Should a photo be included? = in my case, i do like including picture in my CV because am more of a visual and graphic person.

3. Do you have any tips on interview conduct in Qatar? Are there any particulars, such as greetings or behavioural customs? = Not at all but common interview rudimentry knowledge would be good.

4. In you opinion, is knowledge of the local language or a regional language necessary to successfully apply for a job? What level of the language should job-seekers have mastered? = it really an advantage but it is not mostly a requirement, it also depends on the field of proffession.

Thanks & Regards.
