American in Saudi: Baby birth certificate challenges - advice needed

Nira87

Has anyone from a Western country had a baby in Saudi Arabia and successfully gotten a birth certificate in the format:

FirstName MiddleName LastName

(e.g., Father: Frederick Christ Trump → Baby: Donald John Trump)

Instead of the typical Saudi format, which seems to be:

BabyFirstName FatherFullName

(e.g., Father: Frederick Christ Trump → Baby: Donald Frederick Christ Trump)

I completely understand that this is just a different naming tradition, but I’m concerned about potential long-term implications when it comes to paperwork back home. I’ve heard that using the Saudi-style name can sometimes cause issues for the child or parents when dealing with official documents abroad.

At the hospital, I was told the system automatically pulls the father’s full name from the Iqama and only allows one name for the baby, resulting in the child’s name being formatted as FirstName FatherFullName.

Has anyone found a workaround or had success in ensuring the baby’s name appears in the Western format on the birth certificate? Any tips or experiences would be really appreciated.

Also, does anyone know how strictly the U.S. Embassy follows the name on the Saudi birth certificate when issuing a CRBA (Consular Report of Birth Abroad) or U.S. passport? Will they allow the name to be formatted as First Middle Last even if the Saudi certificate follows a different convention?

Thanks in advance!
