Question for PC hardcore gamers

mudassarkazi

Hello Hardcore Gamers,

I have a question, I am looking for a Core i3 laptop (with a graphics card) that can be capable of running all(most of) modern 3d games.

Could anyone please suggest me any model.

I know core i5s and i7s are better then i3s for playing games but currently i dont have a budget for those.

Thanks

More appropriate specialist advice here: tomshardware.com/forum/

I doubt you'll get definitive answers here.  I could have suggested an i5 unit that was on sale in Jarir, but it's disappeared from sale apparently and you didn't specify your budget to a figure.  Make sure you do specify if you post on TomsHardware or anywhere specialist or the right people won't help you.

I have heard that in Saudi, is the best place to get computer equipment. I may be wrong, though.

You want to play games, but have budget constraints. In this case, I believe an AMD CPU, instead of an Intel, would give you more bang per buck.

Most high end games are bottle necked by graphics capability of the computer, not the CPU processing power. You should therefore get a laptop with a dedicated graphics card.

Finally, if at all possible, make your life easier and try and get a solid state drive instead of a hard disk drive. It speeds up everything so much. When you are making your purchase, they might provide the option of swapping out the HDD and adding a SSD. Go for it, if you can afford it.

Toms Hardware is a good website for reviews and suggestions. A problem is that the products they discuss there might not be available in Saudi. It is a good place to do some reading, though.

Have a look at what is available at Extra. Perhaps use this one as a comparison point. It is on sale.

If you have the budget of more than 1200-1300$ go for atleast AlienWare 14 have both the power and portability can run games smoothly on med. high settings, but buy it outside saudi(buy online) :) its much cheaper compared to the shops ive been through gaming laptop is a reap here in saudi :P.. :)

This is incorrect. For current generation games games, there isn't significant difference in gaming performance with the aid of multiple cores and hyper threading. The magic happens in the integrated graphics card.

Specify your budget then find a laptop that has the best graphics card in your price range either from AMD or Nividia.

Did you eliminate the option of getting a desktop instead? because most gaming laptops are heavy and need cooling pads, so they sit on a desk most of the time.

mudassarkazi

wow ... quite frankly i was not expecting such a good discussion. Thanks for all your feedback. My budget is max 2000 SAR. Thanks yeehi and aman11022 for suggesting me that instead of going to a multiple CPUs i should go for a machine with good graphics card. That means a dual core laptop with a good dedicated graphics is better the the core i5 with shared graphics?

If you have visit the local shop or online store, you will see they dont mention graphics card model in the specs. Could anyone please suggest me some corei3 models with a dedicated graphics card within my budget?

Thanks

Freshlikesushi

Yeah but too bad there are no i3 with dedicated graphics worth a shit.

A Samsung i5 3337u with HD8750 was going for 2700sar in a sale at Jarir, with the next laptop up (different brand, 16% more power) going for 4700sar......

a HD 4000 integrated into the cpu isn't going to play modern 3D games.  Don't let anyone sucker you into believing that.

Buy an xbox

ralph-HRD-Dude

if ur budget is only 2000SR, ur not gonna be able to play modern 3D games with that on high settings:) but you can play decent games in maybe a low-med settings but dont expect too much... :) maybe you can build a rig and slowly upgrade as you have the dough, but if you gonna go with laptop , atleast alot a budget more than that, i can say you can get a decent laptop with 4000 SR, but not with 2000sr if you want to play modern 3D games.. :(

This is actually a nice idea! Xbox one or PlayStation 4 will have much better graphics than any laptop less than 2000. You can absolutely play most of recent games with either of them. Ps4 will be out on November and xbox one on December.

Freshlikesushi

You wont get an xbox 1 on ksa for under 2000

Buy an xbox 360

It will be out after 3 months. I'm pretty sure he can save up to SR2600~2700 for either consoles. I don't think it will exceed SR2700.

Freshlikesushi

and games? and then a decent headset?

come on man.
plus all teh games on xbox one will be on 360 for a while

im not buying one.

Relax dude, I'm just giving options. You can do whatever you want.

But in my defense, next generation console will last with you easily 5 years. Much better option than buying a "crappy" laptop which you cannot upgrade in the long run.

Freshlikesushi

yeah, but the current gen console isnt even maxed

Xbox came out in 2005. It can run games, but frankly they look rubbish. You are investing for 6 years.
You either buy xbox one and enjoy decent graphics for 6 years or buy 360 and force yourself to tolerate poor graphic every time a new game come out.

I found one HP core i5 at jarir. The model is G6. It is available with 500GBhdd and 4GB ram. Plus 2GB graphics card (model is 630M).
I search this graphics card on internet and found some very good recommendation for this card. The cost is 1999 SAR.

Please suggest.

The truth was I really don't play on PC even if his got the best graphics game ever, I'm good in handling joy stick then pressing up and down, A or B button.....ok the graphics card is not so bad, you may play some but as new games release you need a higher graphics card again. just saying.....:)

anyone from khobar who have good collection of PC games can share his collection with me please?

tonguetwister

I spent close to SAR 9,500.00 on my desktop rig. It has a Intel Haswell I7-4770K chip, with 16GB DDR3 RAM and a NVidia GeForce GTX 660 Ti graphics card. Runs everything really well with no problems.

The CPU wasn't extremely expensive; not more than SAR 600-700.

If you want to play games on PC, then build your own gaming rig. Alternatively, you could buy yourself a gaming laptop such as an Alienware (Dell), but these ultimately are more expensive and extremely difficult if not impossible to upgrade.

mudassarkazi

I need some new HD games. Can anyone (from khobar) please share his gaming collection with me?
