Will an American TV work in Saudi?

redgems

Hi All -

Does anyone know about or have experience with bringing over an American TV to KSA?  We want to bring our Sony Bravia/NTSC TVs to KSA - will the TV work?

Is there anything we should be aware of before we try plugging away and subscribe to a service?

Thanks much!

Make sure your villa has compatible power source 110 or 220.

Redgems - I have a friend who has her TV here and NO it doesn't work.  I've sent her a note to see why.

Here at my compound the voltage is 220 (in the US we use 110 except for a few things--like it's usually wired 220 for an electric stove).

You can buy a 110-to-220 transformer so that you can use the TV's here but good ones are a bit expensive.  You'd also need a plug adapter.

There does not seem to be a standard in Saudi for power and plug types.  Even within a single compound you can find both 110 & 220 plus every possible type of wall socket.

As a result plug adapters and transformers are widely available.

Thanks for your responses everyone.  What about the NTSC to PAL issue? We're concerned whether we'll be able to receive picture once we have the TV plugged in with the adaptors.

Hello Redgems,  I know this is an old post, but I have the same concern about the same type of TV.  Did you end up bringing your TV?  Should I be concerned about the system difference?  Thanks.
