Profession Change in KSA
Dear All,
Greetings.
I need to change my profession and my Bachelor degree ( in Mechanical Engineering) is just attested from Saudi Embassy. My current profession is labour and I want to change it to the one which matches to my degree.
I work in an establishment which is registered under IT sector, now what professions are eligible for me under this category.. Because I heard that Ministry allots some fixed profession for companies based on the business activities..
I work as a design engineer and the company is registered as an IT establishment, I want to know what profession would suit me under this.
Can the HR / sponsor request a new profession from the ministry based on my degree.. or it can easily change to any profession without any restrictions.
I want to make it clear bcz in KSA nothing is certain, things are fine till now with the current profession. I don't want to put myself in trouble once the profession change is requested...
And there is also a profession test news going on, is this for every one? Will it exclude the ones who are registered with Saudi Council?
Please let me know your thoughts..
Have a great day.
Regards,
Waseem

Yeah you can change your profession to mechanical engineer if you have 4 years degree or to associate mechanical engineer if your degree is of two years.
But there is a question:
Why an IT company should have a mechanical engineer?
They can't hire mechanical engineers.
So, i think there will be a problem.
Companies can't hire any professional outside of their registered fields.
And yes, that test/exam will be for every skilled professional who has such profession on his/her iqama.
But there will be no test for labors, helpers, drivers and any other low category profession which does not require any professional skill/education.
Thanks Arsla for the quick reply.
Even I have this feeling.
So what could be done?
But there was no problem during the sponsor transfer.
My profession is workshop worker but still the transfer was done and my iqama was also renewed.
I am just making the profession change to get my family here. Can the current employer could request for the new profession based on my degree.
Actually I work for a company who deals with mechanical softwares and therefore it is registered as an IT.. but yes this is hard to be explained for the officials. Have you seen any such cases before.
Thanks again.

You have a profession like labor, so there was no problem in the first place.
But, if you want to get that new profession according to your degree, your company should change/update its fields of work in ministry of commerce and i do not know if they would do that because it will cost them money and time.
And now they are putting new laws and system, so just be careful.
Ask your company HR to get information first.
Thanks Arsal,
I will check with them. I don't need any complications.
Any other experts would like to share their view please?

Every company is registered with specific fields.
For example, one company is registered as working in the field of electrical work only in High Voltage, they can not work in low voltage unless they get that permission also.
So, they would never be able to hire anyone for low voltage work with such professions.
That is just an example.
Ask your company HR first that is there a chance that the company can hire an engineer of your expertise?

It is.
But some professions are blocked right now.
mailmeksyed wrote:would you please let me know what professions are blocked and what are open?
Thanks
Not sure.
I heard they are rejecting some IT related professions, Sales and some management professions.
mailmeksyed wrote:Thanks, it means we cannot move from SCE to SOCPA?
It is blocked last time i heard.
Not sure right now.
If it is open, no one can get a job of head accountant as a new joiner.
That job is only for Saudis now.
mailmeksyed wrote:i have seen under qiwa platform profession change option, did any one changed?
Who said that?
Qiwa is for jobs and contracts between employees and the companies.
There is no service in KSA to change profession online.
Qiwa platform is for everyone who has absher a/c, from july onwards there will be professional verification exam which will be mandatory and over 1000 professions are listed as per saudi statistics occupation code check it out. I registered on qiwa today.

I registered on Qiwa months ago.
And listen again, there will be no profession change option on Qiwa.
And for that exam thing, nobody knows exactly what they will do.
I can't listen to you because its a blog
go and read it, everyone is not clear just sharing updates. chill to share the information
don't command "listen again"
That profession change will be available for the companies as far as i know.
And how i knew it?
Because at that time i was running a damn company.
That is how i came to know.
Qiwa is not only for you.
I joined qiwa 6 months ago.
That platform is for companies too.
I am giving you the link.
Have fun dude
thanks please update, it is a nightmare with an unclear process as usual.
By the way you ran a unique company "damn"
