I do get bites time to time, probably around 2~3 bites per week... haha. But the mosquitos here in Jeddah do not seem to have as bad of a bite as the countries I have lived in - US and Korea. Usually the bites are healed within one day and they don't itch much. I think the mosquitos here are mostly small, so they can't drink too much of your blood.

Let me start by saying that I attract  Mosquitos myself ... i have two good news and two bad news, the first good news is that the mosquito season is over for this year since usually we got them during winter time and the second good news is that it's true their bites are not nasty at all .

To the bad news now , the first bad news is that if you are going to live in a compound and if the Managment there does not spray regularly then you will end having Mosquitos all year around due the greenery and the way they water plants in most compounds, the second bad news is that dinging Mosquitos is calling Jeddah HOME ...

And the THIRD bad news is that the spray in many of the compounds is stuff that has been banned in the US.

Bring a good insect repellant (in lotion form) with you.  There are many choices on the market; those with DEET offer the best protection, although there are natural products that might be as effective. 

Also bring a basic non-prescription, topical anti-itch cream to minimize itching from any bug bites.  In a pinch, there are products not specified for bites that stop the irritation.  For example, I've successfully used diaper cream (containing zinc) to reduce bug bite itching and speed healing.  Anti-redness eyedrops are also effective.  Theoretically, anti-wrinkle eye cream should take care of the problem as well.  Ditto for an ice cube applied to the affected area.  White vinegar... toothpaste... baking soda mixed with water...  Ah, this list could go on and on.

Yes, mosquitoes are a problem! Try putting cut limes with cloves stuck in them in your room when you sleep. Mosquitoes don't like the smell. That said, I'm planning to bring some citronella candles with me next time I go home.

Also, here's an odd tip that seems to work. Wash your feet thoroughly with soap and water just before you go to sleep. Mosquitoes seem to be attracted to the slightest organic odor on feet. Not saying anyone's feet smell (), but soap and water seem to reduce the human smell, if you will.

By the way, brought back citronella essential oil with me from the States, to repel mosquitoes. Forgot to bring a diffuser, but I'm thinking it'll work fine in a cup of hot water, or maybe even a drop or two in a burning votive candle.

Has anybody tried to buy citronella candles at IKEA?

I read that mist system is the best effective solution, does anyone know if the service is available in Jeddah, makkah, madinah or areas close to them?

We dont have to worry about Mosquitos for anoth 9 months do we?!

I wish!!!! Though the spray my compound uses is not harmful for my children (which I am thankful for) it also doesn't kill mosquitoes!

I have only ever experienced Mosquito bites in Nov - Jan.
