Where are the Europeans/Americans in Khobar??

xval13

Hi everybody,

I'm an °µÍø½ûÇøriates in Saudi Arabia since October 2009. I'm living actually in Khobar where I'm working. I'm a french guy of 21 yo and I'm living in Eurovillage compound.

Unfortunately this place is quiet....very quiet....and people is not very "open". There is not families.

This is quite strange to don't find any European in EUROvillage!! Guys there have nothing to share, just "work, eat, sleep", that's it.

My question is : where are all those °µÍø½ûÇøriates?? Which compound?? My company is ready to let me move from this compound to another one but I don't want to find the same atmosphere than in Eurovillage. I heard that BAE compound is a nice place to stay but only reserved to their employees...

Thanks in advance for you help...

Do we have to learn French now? Anyone offering French lessons?

Alliecat

Hi MatGwen,

Welcome to the forum, which has THREE parts:  English, Spanish and French.

To go to the French section, just click the French flag at the top of this page, to the right, above the word GO.

MatGwen

Sorry guys !

Hi Valentin,
You've been on visit to Canary Village, as far as I know! :)
What you think about it? is it not more lively than Eurovillage? (which by the way used to be much better some 5 years ago when I lived there! we used to party a lot) :D

translation:
a popular saying that points out, you wont get what you need for a long time.

english pronounciation:

raddid ya layl ma-atwalk.

literal translation:
repeat, oh night how long you are.

meaning of literal translation:
keep saying (repeating) oh night how long you are. (night represents darkness and day reps light. to reach your goal is to reach light, and to not is to remain in the dark. the proverb reminds you that darkness will remain for a Looooooooooong time, that means daybreak is faaaaaaaaaaaar of.)

in other words, ya aint getting what ya want anytime soon.

its also worth mentioning that "mnd" wrote "ma-atwalk" as "ma6walk" 6 is similar to the arabic letter "Ø·" which is different than "T" so in nowdays chating, 6 is a popular replacement.......

.....

....   I just realized how :offtopic: I am....

bye,

Salman

We have already had a smattering of Arabic, Urdu and French. Should I join the party in Sinhalese or Tamil?

twaone

Get a French girlfriend who doesn't speak Arabic or English, Salman.  Quickest way to learn a language.

I learned Portuguese and West African Kriolu that way.

As for the OP, he went away and I don't think he ever posted again.

UniversalStop

I feel for ya, guy.  I often see no Westerners all day long.

Of course, there are tons of Euros and Yanks at Aramco.  I recently visited Sara (spelling?) Compound, and almost everyone I saw was European.  They all seemed to like it there.

twaone

The Al Rushaid Villages are nice. I live in ARV-2. Nice facilities and people. First Class maintenance.

Xval13,

you are very young and i feel for you man!

Try to have some American or British friends in large compounds like of Aramco. actually there are plenty of them around in this website, so they can allow u in. goodluck.

Stimstar37

He isnt kidding, Eurovillage bites the big one, and j'ai parle un peux fracais.  I have been there for four years and we finally moved out.  The compound across the street inbehind the pharmacy/drugstore has some awesome looking towhhouses but I have no idea what the rate is.  And if you need to party, hang out with British °µÍø½ûÇøs, they know where all the good " apple juice" is.

xval13

Thanks!! I'm actually in contact with people from Aramco and also I have an entry point in BAE compound where there is some "apple juice". I moved from Eurovillage, they are renovating it and it's nowadays full of Chinese.

Thanks to all of you for your help.

jenda

You lucky man! my company has lower budget, it means i live outside compound /oh my god/ in furnished appartment, /without any contact with non-muslims/...few drops of apple juice which i found through egyptians colleagues was made by philipino guys. homemade from dates, good taste, but finished....so i just can dream about it now:/
only chocolate mixed with cigaretes left. and internet...
so i mostly use the same time flow as you said: work, sleep, eat .../sometimes I think : why i didnt choose better job - suicide bomber, for example.../

Mudman

Why the problem to find 'apple juice', it takes 3 weeks to make and if you can let it stand a few more weeks you'll have a right tasty tipple.

Stimstar37

There is a book outthere called the °µÍø½ûÇø survival guide, it is geared more to western °µÍø½ûÇøs.  Has all sorts of recipes for apple juice :).
