"Compound" accommodations in Riyadh.

Munavar Attari

Hello all,

I have been hearing impressive things about Compound accommodations in Riyadh for °µÍø½ûÇøs. What would be a typical Studio or 2 BHK rental in areas like Al Ajlan, Olaya, near Boulevard, Business District?

Any alternatives to Compounds with similar facilities?

Thanks!

This is the issue with Saudi.  Once you go outside of the compounds, facilities in normal apartment buildings are severely lacking.   There is no concept of in-building gym, pool etc. (which we would take for granted in Bahrain/UAE etc.) in, I would say, 99% of the buildings, including the newer ones.  The few exceptions are luxury towers which are similar to compound prices anyway.

I went through this recently as my office shifted to another part of Riyadh.  I was in a compound at the old location and since my family isn't here, I am relatively flexible.   What I want is simply a furnished apartment, secured parking for car and a gym.   A famous development company which makes new fancy apartments (won't list names) has available properties close to my office while the compounds are totally full.  But guess what?   no gym and no secure parking but the apartments are very modern & nice.  I ended up moving into a singles compound around 15 minutes away from the office.

So depends on your priorities. If you want facilities, stay in the compounds.
