welcome to my own city.
i am a Saudi girl live in Riyadh.
i think it is ok to film or take photoes in Riyadh.
But don't filming women or people in gineral.
I think also it's ok to take photoes of mosques.
If you want to ask which places are most modren or oldest places in riyadh feel free to ask me.

As @blue-rose111 said, you can shoot anything you like except:

- In the malls, try avoiding your camera zooming at/targeting ladies/girls. From males, seek permission.
- Stay away (with a powered on cam) from military buildings and their hospitals.

Rest almost everything is good to shoot; malls, streets, mosques, sand, anacondas whatever

Thanks for the replies. That's good to know that we'll be able to shoot/film a bit. There will be two of us, one of whom is a woman. Is she likely to get any hassle if she is filming, taking photos? She'll be wearing an abaya.
bluerose: I'm interested in anything you can tell me about modern places and places where people hang out and socialise. I know the malls are very popular. Are there any other places other than malls?

In Riyadh you can visit Wadi Haneefa. I think its interesting. It's a very known vally in all the Kingdom. It's a huge and long one. nowadays , it's like a big park full of visiting people.

Also you can visit Almasmak. It's an old palace for king Abdulaziz.

I don't now if you can visit the diplomatic area.
But i think it's interesting in watching many embassies.

Also you can take a photo of the biggest flag in the middle East which located in Riyadh.
It's in Aldreah square. its a very big and tall flag of Saudi Arabia .
i can see it from my home

Many modren resturant are there.

also you can enjoy the desert out side Riyadh(one hour by car)

I hope i give a clear view to you.

*at the end i would say that Saudi people are very kid and helpful.

Be sure to go to Old Dir'riyah (spelling?), which was the original city of Riyadh.  Actually, if you go to the National Museum first, you'll get some history ... (I'm always recommending the National Museum--I love that place!  Be sure to wander around outside, too, esp. at night, there will be a lot of Saudi families picnic'ing).

And of course, visit Masmak Fort and the souk area around Deerah (spelling again, dammit lol).

Pity you missed the Janidriyah Festival.

Thanks  for the compliment, blue-rose111 lol  but I sure don't.  If I were any place else, a place where I could drive or use public transportation, I'd know this place like the back of my hand!!

Oh, and homework?  Get to the Red Sands and also the big camel souk is somewhat fascinating!
