emergency physician
dear all. hello IÂ am new to this forum. I am an er physician, did my pg in em from uk (mcem) and thinking of moving to riyadh , saudi arabia.
i did my mbbs in 2000 and worked as gp till 2009. and i have 4 years experience in emergency medicine.
I had applied to different hospitals online and thru contacts in saudi.
i have heard many friends who have done their em pg that starting salary shud be 3.5 lakhs other put it at 4 and some even 5 lakhs inr per month.
the reason i am asking this question is i have a family, 2 children and have really struggled even be4 getting my pg and never thought i will even get to finish it.
i wud appreciate if anyone who has experience in saudi arabia medical profession or has friends to let me know what i shud expect.
i had applied to hospitals like armed forces hospital, king faisal, kkuh sulaiman habib etc.
i had job offers and was interviewed thru skype but according to what my frinds told me salary was less.around 14000 sr per month as a registrar.
i would appreciate if people can help me regarding what salary, position, should i look for as a doctor . i am mcem uk qualified which is same as saying a doctor who has recently done his mrcp qualified.
i know my question revolves a lot around salary and position and seem desperate which to be honest i am but at the same time i donto want to make any hasty decisions.
thanks.
Hello everyone. I had posted earlier and still waiting for reply since i have only just found this site and have a job offer and have to reply to them soon.
I also wanted to let u know

I have 12 years experience in medicine. i did my mbbs in india 2000 and mcem pg degree (equivalent to mrcp) from uk 2013 , dip in em in 2012.
i would appreciate advice on the salary esp anyonee who has stayed in saudi.
i am being offered a salary of 14000 sr. i personally feel salary is low but for personal reasons i feel like accepting the offer and maybe towards end of contract look for job elsewhere.
so i wud appreciate any advice. the offers r frm KKUH, PSMMC riyadh.
thanks
you can skype me for all info on hazmalik2 regarding the offer. not in a mood to type all the answers
@ DrHassanMalik --> These informations may be useful to the other members also. You could share it with us on the Forum. Thanks.
Hello Suzan. thanks for repy. I am in India and did my MBBS from India and MRCP(MCEM) from UK. As i mentioned in my post my friends have told me to expect salary in range of 22-25,000 SR. starting.
Diff Saudi hospitals have interviewed me and the salary for me is disappointing.
I do have other job offers from UK but for time I have to consider Saudi. I need to save something. Regarding australia thats a good option but I dont believe the procedure is as straightforward.
I have my MCEM(MRCP) this is held in India. Looks like the hospital which is hiring is considering the fact that I am Indian citizen and dont want to consider howmuch effort I had put in the UK degree. I feel let down by the system where my intervierws have gone well , the interviewing doctors are happy ,yet the pay is based on my color, region I am from.
Even the MCEM ,UK board clearly does not differentiate b/w MCEM experience whether it is from UK or from abroad. The UK system treats every single indivisual based on degree/ experience the doctor has. I did email the hospital back and they just ignore my request( no email).Â
The reason is the interviews were conducted 3 months ago so if I go for other interviews it will delay the procedure further and i have my daughters education which i believe schools start in september. So I dont want her to waste one year of schooling.
Should I accept the offer and towards the end of my contract personally look for a better salary/job ofcourse with other benefits?
Hello suzan. regarding australia . I am keeping that option . Casn u let me know the process to get started there following MCEM ,UK.
I would like to be clear since my first aim is to save money atleast for a year and then continue with my fellowship in emergency medicine (fcem or whatever australian equivalent).
so its important to know certain things about australia eg
cost of living, job position offered, perks offered, housing , educaton etc.
if u can let me know the procedure that wud be helpful. thanks.
Its adilmnazeem at yahoo dot com. Thanks.

so what did you do from 2009 to 2013?
Who says miracles don't happen?Â
Stranger on the internet says she can "give you contacts in Australia where you will start from $100,000- $150000 per year, depending on your field. Within 5 years of working there you could easily earn up to $500,000 per year."

Well, they offered you the salary of a registrar--that's why it was low.Â
I know doctors make a lot more here so can only figure you fell short on their requirements.
Keep trying!
from 2009-2013 I was in the MCEM program at apollo health city as a resident -senior resident er. I left and worked at another hospital as a registrar in ER since 2012-2013. I passed my MCEM in June 2013 and worked as a Junior Consultant in ER in India.

If you need help, please send a message!
and now we know why they offered you registrar
how do you go from a sr resident in er to a jr consultant
isnt that a step back?
how is it a step back. the registrar postion in er is before i was mcem fully qualified which i had for 1 year with mcem part a , b and diploma in em.
once i am fully qualified with mcem degree even the hospital i am working has offered me junior consultant er position. so thats a promotion

If you need help, please send a message!
yeah, but your last full position was registrar
after qualification you have no work experience with that qualification.
so they are offering you a position based on your last position worked
well if hospitals and people keep offering the same position everyone will be stuck in the same hospital or atleast the same position and salary.
thwere is a significant difference between a doctor who is going to be qualified and one who is fully qualified.
and also there are different levels of seniority within the registrar post in er.
i know of doctors who are working as senior registrars and others who depending on the requirement of the hospital are now junior consultants.
the system in saudi needs to be transparent like in uk where u visit any website(recruitement) they mention the post of the doctos and salary as per NHS ) clearly.

If you need help, please send a message!
Saudi is neither slightly nor at all transparent. its all part of living and working here. if you can get a better job somewhere else? go to it. Saudi isnt that great for your resume anyways no matter what your job
I will keep trying definitely. I think so you are not familiar with emergency medicine or the various posts lie registrar, senior registrar, junior consultant.
I know there is a great demand in saudi arabia/ mideast for emergency physicians.
word of advice freshlikesushi
if you have no practical advice dont put down other people / aspirants who like to come to saudi.
i had come to this forum with a genuine question and unfortunately from your posts if u cant give advice then i suggest please dont.
there are many doctors who are mcem qualified working in mid east. so obviously u are wrong on that front and many docotrs who are working in prestigious universdity hospitals with mcem part a qualifications as asst consultants , like psmmc, king fahd hospital dammam.

If you need help, please send a message!
I didnt say there WERENT many
im telling you that nothing is transparent here. There are people with a label working in a totally different field. this is 100% truth. in all fields.Â
besides, who are we to tell you what is a good salary for you. make your own decisions then.
but to put it in an interesting aspect. As a doctor, with so many years of schooling. you were offered less than i make. And i have ZERO college and work on planes.
id imagine you should get paid a bit more.
Dear dr
I think this offer is responsible. This is registrar offer around 14000 plus housing plus 25000 per child education allowance and travel allowance around 500 is it military hospital?
But if u work as registrar for 2 years you will be promoted to sen registrar around 19000 basic salary.
You can try national guard hospital ss well.military hospital environment and setup is good my advise is try to negotiate more on the offer.mean while u can try uae their is also good demand for ER doctors. All the best. If you need some more information you can e mail at

bro i told you to skype me. Just cant stop laughing on the step back coment by some one. people after being senior registrar one obv steps up to jr consultant position. its a norm here in ksa as well like rest of the medical world. the pay is less coz your specialization and experience is of asian origin and not western.

hello dr hassan, suhail. thanks for reply. i agree things are not transparent in saudi.
drhassan i contacted u thru skype but you did not reply.
i have accepted the offer and may b take it from there...
any way i am also keeping the option of uk open as well where they are offering speciality doctor in er/ senior clinical fellow er job. some of my colleagues in uk who are there with families are able to save 1500-2000 pounds per month. that seems ok.
suhail can u reconfirm ur email. will email u after that.
the most imp benefit of being in saudi/ uae is i will be close to my family in india.
