Movies and p2p?

SF15

Hi again....
Was reading a blog and someone and mentioned cinema in a compound....I thought movies were not allowed inside the kingdom! Which made me curious and can one use p2p and download torrents? Will they check any hard drive in the cargo luggage too?

Thanks in advance!

You can watch movies in you own private home and in compounds.

you can use p2p and download movies.

You will take pot luck in having your laptop searched, best fly over late at night so the customs guy can't be bothered to look.

A portable hard disk will draw more attention!!

Thanks Nelson....

Very well said Mr. Nelson. Many thanks.

I've been in and out of country six times so far with my laptop and none of the security guys ever gave it a second glance.

Never inspected any of my luggage, either, coming into the country.  Going out is another story (to the USA, anyway).

SF15

mmmmm....why do they bother with luggage going out? Shd that be the least of their concerns?

Fidgety Soul

Download as much or whatever u want .I do it all the time but Yeah I personally never download indecent content but I know many who do it.So that's alright i guess and about external HD while traveling;I would never suggest it.Our friend got caught at Airport and faced great amount of insult due to "indecent material" and of course paid 500 SR Penalty. :/

My INDECENT material is Dora the Explorer, Disney Movies, Strawberry Short Cake and Care Bears. If these get taken away...their will be an indecent tantrum at the airport that im dreading already.:/

Saudi authorities  don't want to risk an incident like the 'underwear bomber' ...  I think they're nervous about it--could do real damage to their relationship with the USA.

Kudos for the laugh.

You'll be okay with the kids' stuff.  You will also be able to buy pirated CDs, DVDs if you know where to look.

There are downloading sites that can be accessed but none of the ones I know provide your content, SF.  Then again, you can probably download alot of that from other locations.

Depending on your television provider, some of these shows are on, daily, as well.  In my compound we have the Disney Channel and Boomerang! a kids' show/cartoon program from Australia.

Good luck with the little ones.

SF15

Thanks for all the replies. And thanks for wishing me Good luck...need it right to the brim!!!!

Be sure not to try to bring in any Pokemon as this is banned :)

SF15

wow....thanks!...ill put away with the cards!

MisterStretch

Never heard that one, Nelson.  Why is that?

Is it mean that downloading anything by p2p its ok in Saudi or its monitor content and risk for individual user later anyhow? Of course at the streat, work or airport better to not have any cotroversial movies as I know. yes?

I'm sure it's illegal somehow to download the stuff they don't want you to download. But I think they're pretty lenient on it, and just like anywhere else in the world. If you really want something, you can get it no matter what.

You're OK having movies that have some classy romantic scenes in them, but if it's a movie that's just about getting it on, then yeah. They'll fine you, or delete your whole hard drive, or maybe do nothing. Depends on the guy checking it out.

I've gone and come back a few times, the only they checked my stuff is when I came back with a laptop, external hdd, and a memory stick. It's funny cause the hdd didn't work on their windows pc (OS X) and the laptop was just for work, so no emails or anything on it. It was a horrible waste of an hour though.

Pokemon is banned because you're betting your cards against one another (gambling is against religion). And also, the energy symbol of pikachu resembles the star of david (jewish symbol), and that's not allowed in Saudi Arabia.

Magazines that have bra ads, or swim wear, or anything really with the semi-naked body will be ripped out. Again, this all depends on the guy checking the stuff.

The one time I was checked there was a sandstorm outside, so I think that's why he was being a prick.

So anyone nows what kind of filtering, monitoring is used in internet by Saudi? They are checking contents of web pages or blocking IPs or monitoring each user what he is sending/reciv also during download e.g. movies. And why dowload of torrents its not blocked if movies are problematic in Saudi

belishabeacon

Can't believe Pokemon is blocked. Not that I care, but wow.

In Qatar there was this big issue about Winnie the Pooh, because of his friend Piglet. All the Piglets were blacked out in the Pooh books. So yes, I think there's a job description for these people, but dunno what they're called. I'd imagine they were called Censor Police, or The Censors to give them a rock band-like name. And their uniforms would be an all-black ensemble.

Nonz, I noticed that you commented that some of your friends download indecent material. Send me a PM with their names and I'll have a word.:lol::lol::lol:
