travel in the next 3 days?

Allons-y

I would love to travel within KSA in the coming 3 days, but I am not sure which options are under 12 hours from Riyadh.  I have been to Alkhobar/Dammam/Dhahran already, and the other locations Lonely Planet gives bus fares/times for are 8 hours plus.  I might be up for those places, but something closer is welcome, too.

I also don't know the transportation situation: with the king returning, will flights/buses/trains be affected in the coming days?

Any suggestions on good places to go this time of year (for example, Taif might be better saved for the summer months when I will want a cooler location)? Is Jeddah a bad choice since it may (?) still have bad after effects of the flooding?

Thanks in advice for your insight!!!!
