Property taxes

cdw057

I just paid, in principle 0.2% on value of property, but TAPU is driving which is very low. In a way I am sad that the taxes for civil servants are partly determined by this. Far, far too low in my view. Having said that I do not want to be the only one paying more.

What is your view on annual property taxes?

0.2% is very low but to be fair, the overall tax structure drives taxes collected by the government. I have no knowledge of the Turkish tax system but from an outsiders perspective, it does appear that there is imbalance in its tax revenue streams. I recall one Turkish person posting on this forum that due to the very low participation in income tax reporting, the taxes on vehicles are exorbitantly high to offset the lost revenue.  When I started to research vehicle costs, I was astounded by the sales tax rate particularly with the vehicles with the "larger" engines exceeding 1.6L.  Regardless, your point is valid and I would hope that civil servants are paid equitably. As a point of reference, my real estate taxes in Minnesota is roughly 1.3% of the value of my house while sales taxes for a vehicle is 6.5%.

Hi. In my opinion accordig to financial dynamics of Turkey it is not low. In fact thousands of owners cannot paid property taxes in Turkey. On the otherhand tax management here is a real mess unfortunately.

Hello Evren, I understand and respect your comment as I know that all costs are spiraling out of control in Turkey and it is causing tremendous hardship on Turkish citizens. I travelled to Turkey for dental work in late February and I was shocked at the prices for food/restaurants compared to past visits. I have great empathy for the people of Turkey.
