Dec Jan holidays

I am an older woman teaching English in Central Europe.  I was thinking of visiting Turkey for the holidays, mainly Istanbul, perhaps elsewhere.  Any suggestions, inexpensive but safe place to stay, what is closed in December, what is open, etc.  I am happy visiting museums, sites, low key activitied.

Hi,
the first time I visited Istanbul was January this year. Fortunately for the week I stayed the weather was sunny n no rain.

Ist is actually better in winters with less touristic hassle n you can enjoy the place thoroughly.

I would recommend you stay in the Sirkeçi (Sirke-chi) area. I stayed at a hotel which was right opposite the palace and 5 minutes walk from Blue Mosque,  Hagia Sophia n other museums in SultanAhmet.

The tram also passes right in front if the street,  that's an added bonus. You can also visit the Taksim area for high end shopping and clubbing if you're in high spirit. :)

And the cost was mere US$ 50. It's not super luxury but decent for a nights stay if you intend to spend your day exploring the city.

Hope this helps. Enjoy your stay. :)
