Moving to Abu Dhabi......Guidance required...

ssaad24sal

I have been offered a job in E & P Company in ABU DHABI. The nature of job will be a head office based job with family status. My security clearance & medical clearance has been completed and will be joining the company in April this year. I am a married man 36 years old having wife & 3 children (2 school going & 1 infant).  Company package will include.

•    Total Salary income (including general allowances) : 28,500 Dirham / month
•    Annual Accommodation Allowance (not included in the above salary): 150,000 Dirham / year
•    Child education allowance (not included in the above salary): 35,000 Dirham / year / child up to 4 children.
•    Furniture allowance (not included in the above salary) : 40,000 Dirham (one time only)
•    Car loan: 100,000
•    Fully covered medical of complete family.
•    Annual Bonuses.

I have following queries in my mind which I request all the fellows to please answer so that I could prepare my mind and my future living standards accordingly.

1.    Is the total salary package (28,500 Dirham) is enough for good living in Abu Dhabi. In which category it will beÂ…. a) below average, b) average, c) above average, d) good & e) very good.
Can I save some money after excluding all the expenses (utilities, meals & other expenses).
2.    Is the mentioned accommodation allowance is enough. I need to have either 3-4 bed apartment / villa on rental basis near to Khalidiyah (15 min by taxi or at walking distance). Will the rental include all utility bills also?
3.    Is the child education allowance is enough to get admission in some good school there.
4.    Can I sponsor my parents on a long term basis? If yes please advise procedure.
5.    How can I prepare myself to shift to Abu Dhabi & what expected difficulties I can face there initially.
6.    Any other views covering other aspects.

I know answering all the queries will be difficult & boring for everybody, however I cordially request all the fellow members to please answer as much as queries as they can. That would be very helpful for me in planning my relocation. I shall be very great full to all.

depends how u spend here..

That surely looks like an ADNOC offer
It's good
Just need to watch your monthly expenses
biggest concern in Abu Dhabi is accommodation and school,
and you are covered

If I had to pick, due to your family size, I would say it is about average. But I agree it depends on how you spend your money.

I can however tell you that 150,000 dirham for rent is not enough for a three to four bedroom home. That was our accomodation allowance as well. This may afford you a one to two bedroom apartment.

The average price for a 3 bedroom lingers around 190,000- 200,000 dirham, depending on the area of Abu Dhabi. I am in the process of housing for me and my husband now. We got a really good deal on a 3 bedroom townhouse at 170,000aed that was originally listed at 180,000. This annual amount is also due up front in the UAE in most cases just so you know. Your company should take care of that though.

We asked my husband's employer to use our goods and services allowances to cover the rest of the rent. I am not sure what your package offers but you may be able to do something similiar rather than payng the remainder of the rent out of pocket.

Does this help at all?

Hi,
I have been here for five years now and I can tell you the school fees are your problem, lower grades at some school are over 40k and for the higher grades you will be looking at 50k+.
Otherwise your package is average. Get back to me if you have any other Q.

Many thanks for the detailed information. What I concluded from the information you people provided that my package is not good and below average and it would be difficult for me to save even a single penny here if I relocate with my family. Currently I have one daughter 6 years old which is school going, the 2nd one is 2.8 years and the last one is infant.

I am now thinking about withdrawing the offer

Thanks again

Here are some guidance answers to your queries:

1.    Is the total salary package (28,500 Dirham) is enough for good living in Abu Dhabi. In which category it will beÂ…. a) below average, b) average, c) above average, d) good & e) very good.

This cannot be viewed abstractly as it depends on the job in question, its category, the job family and classification whether junior, middle mgmt, senior, etc and many other considerations. So there is no perfect answer to your quiety as  salaries in abu dhabi range from couple of hundred dirhams to couple of hundered of thousands and standard deviation for each category has to be considered.

Can I save some money after excluding all the expenses (utilities, meals & other expenses).

Depends on your life style and considerations highlighted in question 1.

2.    Is the mentioned accommodation allowance is enough. I need to have either 3-4 bed apartment / villa on rental basis near to Khalidiyah (15 min by taxi or at walking distance). Will the rental include all utility bills also?

Depends on considerations highlighted in question 1above. Khalidiya is generally medium in range for rents but depends on sharing arrangements which varies on case by case basis depening on type of accomodation.

3.    Is the child education allowance is enough to get admission in some good school there.

Depends on you quality of school and considerations highlighted in question 1.

4.    Can I sponsor my parents on a long term basis? If yes please advise procedure.
5.    How can I prepare myself to shift to Abu Dhabi & what expected difficulties I can face there initially.
6.    Any other views covering other aspects.

Hi friends,
Recently I got an offer from ADNOC affiliate. They have mentioned eveything like basic, allowances, accomodation etc. But they have not mentioned anything about annual bonus/ production bonus or annual salary increment.

Anybody having idea, whether they give any annual bonuses or not? If yes, in past how much they have given?
What is annual increment in salary?

Thanks in advance.....
