New permenant resident stuck in USA

jazzpaz

I'm so frustrated! I just got my permanent residency to live in Mexico, and I can’t drive into the country in my Texas-plated car to select a new home. My wife is a temporary citizen, but she doesn’t drive.

I’m willing to go buy a car in Mexico, but I can’t drive there to do that.

The representative at the Mexican consulate in Houston Banjercito told me to declare myself to be a tourist at the border, but that will invalidate my permanent residency status, and I will have to start the entire process all over.

Does anyone have any remedies to offer me?

I had the same problem when I was granted permanent residency a few years back. I flew to Mexico, bought a car, and put it at a friend's house, returned to the states, then paid a Mexican couple to drive me and 2 dogs to Mexico, along with my belongings. Once I got to Mexico, I had a car. But, you can always just wait, and buy one when you get here.
