Move to chapala

pbozz

Hello. My sister and I r planning to move around chapala area approx. October.  We r in Pacific nw, tired of gray skies and rain. We both have traveled a lot. We lived in PV a year but it was way too hot in summer. I lived internationally 20 years but want, hopefully, one last move being as I am 76. My sister is 69 and retired airline.  We both have trouble getting our mind set on giving up our belongings but want to only bring things we can fit into our cars with a small trailer, which we did when we moved to PV in 2005. Had to return after a year to take care of 94 year old mother.  I know it's btr to wait until arrival to find a place to live and have visited a few times. We also scour the Internet to look at places for rent. We each want to have our own place and we both have pets. Any suggestions on which area around chapala would be appreciated, not necessarily ajiic. We don't need big °µÍø½ûÇø area.  Also any ideas on using a realtor or ways to find a casa or whatever would be great. We rented in PV online and had a great place.  Any info would be greatly appreciated. One last thing, r artist supplies available locally? I ama wanna be painter.  Thanks for any info.  Phyllis

Phyliss,

Lake Chapala is a great choice. And Ajijic is the best of the areas.
I have a webb page I am always in contact with for rentals and the like.
I am a realtor in Cabo San Lucas.

There is a very nice developement coming into the Lake, The Birds of Paradise, see if they have anything. 2 bedroom apartments, small but nice area and community!

Might be better to talk to locals on a Lake Chapala message board.   Many more choices than a "development"

pbozz:  Why Lake Chapala?  Have you ever visited there? Have you ever visited other places in Mexico?

Another place you might consider is San Miguel de Allende if you wish to be around other °µÍø½ûÇøs. Or Guanajuato is a beautiful place as well: Larger than San Miguel, but not too large. Or Tequisquiapan if you like smaller, quiet places.

Thanx for ur reply mike. I have been to chapala. Was not considering it at first. Lived in PV a year, too hot. Lived on Baja years ago. Also lived far east and middle east 20 years. Don't need a big °µÍø½ûÇø community, don't get involved in clubs, etc. Also thought about San miguel and gto but was concerned about altitude as I have slight asthma occasionally. Also seems to b a little on expensive side ??? Open to more info though. Thought this time chapala would be a good starting place? A little concern re  u.s. policies that seem to b coming. Any reactions locally re this subj??? Open to suggestions and advice. Just trying to pair down house here.  Thanx for all replies. Phyllis at ***

Also prefer to live in local areas.

pbozz:  I think you may find the costs with living in Lake Chapala are about the same as in San Miguel. They are both quite "gringoized" which seems to cause a bit of inflation.

Asthma is an issue with altitude for sure. But, is it possible that high humidity might not be so good for asthma either. Just a thought. Don't know if there is any validity to the idea. Have you researched that?

Maybe consider some elevation to reduce the humidity. One °µÍø½ûÇø here claims that Coatepec is a nice place to live. I have not visited it myself but am interested. It is at about 4000 feet above sea level. San Miguel is at about 6000 feet above sea level. Chapala has an elevation of about 5000 feet above sea level.

Good luck in your endeavors.
