Financial/banking information

gubabbaboy

I'd like to know if it matters to US banks about the mailing address of the owner of the account.
I've lived in Mexico for ten years, and still use banking accounts in the US (Bank Of America, CITI Bank, Chase Bank). We use them to have certain items (mostly medicines and supplements)
My husband and I are just tired of keeping USPS addresses in the US when we have little need for them.
Should we open charge accounts in Mexico? Do those cards apply to purchases in the US as easily as US cards with US mailing addresses?
Please forgive if these are old questions. We're concerned about this every year about this time, and just don't know the answers to these questions.
We live in a rancho at the corners of Guanajuato, Jalisco and Michoacan.

Thank you for your answers, experiences and wisdom.

gubabbaboy,

I think that the only people who can answer bank policy questions would be the banks. A number of U.S. Banks also have a presence in Mexico. Citibank/ Banamex is one of them. BoA /Santander is another.

Thank you. This is a more direct way to get an answer, I'm sure, but my heart just sinks when I make a call to a US company - never sure if the answer I get is really real. But I'll get to it.
Thanks very much.

Can you approach it from the Mexican side? Check with their Mexican affiliate? The problem is each bank has its own policies, not just government regulations. I found out how arbitrary that was when I bought a car.  I communicate with my bank using a secure text link and it's quick and easy, but then I don't have any of those banks.

Thank you, travellight. I've been considering using secure messages with the banks I have used for many years. Maybe it sounds a bit paranoid, but I'm just not sure I want them to know, whether from a message or a call.
My husband and I are now in Mexico "for good", and this week we're harvesting our corn crop.
All the best, and thank you.

Yes, I understand what you mean, and I would not call or text most of the banks. It takes time and trust to do that and my history with my not a big bank has been a very long history.
