Looking for a home cook

rimshotsnap

Hi all,

I will be moving to SMA for at least 1-2 months as a trial run starting at the end of this month. We are looking for a housekeeper not for cleaning but specifically for cooking for us 2-3 times per week, with leftovers available. We are not looking for a gourmet, 5 star chef, but more of a local cook who prepares simple but tasty and decently healthy/nutritious meals.

Does anybody have recommendations? Or a recommendation on how to find a recommendation?

I greatly appreciate any ideas!

Hello mathisbaraton,

Welcome to °µÍø½ûÇø :)

While waiting for members to reply, I would suggest that you post a free advert in the Jobs in San Miguel de Allende to spread the word that  you are on the lookout for a cook.

I hope you'll find one soon.  :idontagree:

Best of luck,

Just a general feeling I get, although I'm living over in Rosarito which I'm told is not really Mexico...  ;)

Anyway if you try to hire someone in advance you've got to depend on internet savvy folks, and in general they seem to demand higher wages.

I found my current cook and housekeeper (who fits your description to a T) by asking the staff at the condo community where I was staying before moving into my current apartment.

Then when I moved here it's been necessary to find a replacement because my current housekeeper wants to be more available for her family.

I used the Facebook group for Rosarito and spelled out what I was looking for and what price I was willing to pay.

If you do that in a SMA group, be prepared for trolls to either chastise you for paying too little, or other trolls telling you that you are paying too much, depending upon what you offer.

Probably good for you to arrive and speak to other °µÍø½ûÇøs and get a sense for what they are paying first, before deciding what you are going to offer.

By the way, when I posted my ad, I ended up with 8 different women replying within about 4 hours.

My first choice will be going shopping with my old housekeeper on Monday morning and learning the ropes from her about my specific needs and idiosyncrasies.

Good luck!
