Extended visit in Progreso

Visitor1

I will be visiting my condo in Progreso this February.  Flying in from Toronto.

I have never stayed longer than a couple of weeks, and this time I would like to stay 6 months.

I have heard conflicting information and would like to clarify before I arrive and meet an unpleasant surprise.  Can I just go and stay at my condo or do I need a tourist visa?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

You will get an FMM (Tourist Permit) on the flight. It is good for 180 days and is not renewable. There really is no such thing as a Tourist VISA as it is a permit. Next in line would be a Residencia Temporal which is good for 1 year and is renewable. Beyond that is a Residencia Permanente which is good forever. The Temporal and the Permanente Permits are begun in you home country not in Mexico.
