I liked Wilmington. It's a nice place for a weekend. Also, Grandfather Mountain is not bad for a one day trip.

Christine, if you don't know the Asheville NC area, you should definitely check it out.聽 The mountains of Western NC are amazing, hiking, etc.聽 The city of Asheville is hip and has tons of great restaurants for people looking for many different cuisines.聽 I am a vegan and there are multiple options here.聽 There's lots to do, along with great art scene and great weather.

It depends on where in NC you live?

We lived in various parts of NC for many years. The Asheville, NC (Western NC) was definitely our favourite part to live. We did heaps of day trips from there in particular.
