Immigration lawyer referral

GuestPoster58

Hi. I'm Erik, a Belgian national living in Spain, married to an American. As I approach retirement would like to start Green Card process so that we can eventually settle here in US. Can anyone recommend a good immigration lawyer in NC that has experience with European immigration? Thank you!

Hi,

If your spouse is a US citizen, you can apply for a green card from the US embassy in your country.  That is what I did from Tokyo, Japan (granted it was 20 years ago so rules have probably changed).

I did it all on my own, without a lawyer.  It was a lot of paperwork but not particularly tricky.  You do need to show US tax returns (your spouse) so make sure that part is in order before you apply.  I do remember having to show proof of resources.

All in all, process for me took about 6 months (I’m sure it’s longer now).

Check the US government site for the process.

Good luck!
