Depressed and Living in the US...where to live

BOSTON MAMA

Hello All!

Opinions wanted. We had high hopes of moving to Spain but do to their economy we were unable to do that. We still want to move abroad for 1 year and just don't know where to go from here.

We speak Spanish and I can understand Italian..  We can only be abroad for a year at this point and time.

We would like to a safe place where we can live on $3500-4000 per month USA..Homeschooling is an option for us...so I guess I would need to go where homeschooling is legal or education is affordable.

Where are Americans/English speaking FAMILIES??

Dear Depressed and living in US!

I rarely come to this site nor respond, but I immediately identified with the title to your message...
because that's how I was in the US and like you, I am a US citizen
Come to Thailand.
There's nothing more to say!
I'm a long time writer and author and you can read my latest book: Dear Thailand: A Love Story...

It's is about my first time living here in Thailand and then going back to the U -- and that experience -, and then having to decide to come back here...

Many Thais speak English...you have English and American °µÍø½ûÇøs...and support systems...

Think about two places: Chiang Mai...for more of a city/country/mountain experience
and
Koh Samui...for more of a European/beach/sea/ experience.

(forget about Phuket, Pattaya, Bangkok...though Bangkok is an amazing city...)

Look into visa requirements....I have no clue about your age...you may have to travel out of country every three months for visa...but many do this...there is no problem.

This culture is yin to the yang of what you're used to.

Hope you have something to think about!
blessings.

I'm currently in Uruguay, but am considering Ecuador. From what I see so far living in Ecuador will be significantly cheaper and I see that you could definitely live there on your budget.

Uruguay is an expensive option, and your budget will probably be a little tight after you find a place to rent.

Egypt is also extremely cheap, and you definitely could live off of $2000 per month and live very comfortably. There were a good amount of Americans especially in Maadi and El Rehab (neighborhoods/areas within Cairo). I was there during and after the revolution (the first one Jan.25. 2011), I felt perfectly safe.

It all depends on what type of place would be most comfortable for you and your family.
