Do I need to get my U.S. Passport apostilled to get married in Brasil?

I am getting my original birth certificate apostilled but I'm not sure if I also need to have my U.S. passport apostilled as well.Please help!!

Welcome, Andrew.  No, your passport does not require an apostille.  Under normal circumstances, a passport always stands on its own.

That is true.  Agencies are not supposed to require passports to be translated, but some do anyway, and it's useless to try to fight it when it happens. 


If you bring a duty-free shipment into the country, you will probably be required to provide Customs with a copy of every page of your passport, authenticated by a cartório.  I would not recommend going to the expense of either a Sworn Translation or an authenticated copy unless and until you're asked for it.

I was never asked to get my passport translated. Only my birth certificate and its apostille.
