In the 1990s I spent three days per year at the convention center in San Francisco. The first week in January. An Apple trade show. MacWorld, I think it was called. I offered free advice on building database applications for the database vendor. Long days standing on concrete. One year the owner of the database company installed low tables and stools for us developers. She asked me how the new furniture worked. I started to tell her how to improve the environment. She told me she wasn’t asking for design advice, just my feedback on the low tables and stools. She was French. She owned a house in Atherton and drove a Bentley. She served Veuve Clicquot at a party at the Palace of Fine Arts one evening. She was pissed off about being too short to ride a Harley Davidson. Il Fornaio in Palo Alto was her favorite restaurant. I so enjoyed our infrequent conversations.

I learned to say "I don't know", a valuable lesson.

I miss San Francisco.

A fellow San Franciscan! Maybe we met at MacWorld haha. I love San Francisco with all it's quirks, but I haven't been away long enough to miss it. In the meantime, amo Brasil!

I lived in Menlo Park for a couple of years and then Los Gatos for a while, but never lived in San Francisco. I lived in Palm Springs for two years and commuted to San Francisco. I still miss visiting San Francisco.
