Existential Boredom

alan279

I just ran across the phrase “existential boredom”. Usually referenced by retirees that have accomplished much in their lives and have no more significant goals left to attain.

What do you do in your old age?

Watch the cows eat the grass on your retirement farm, like my brother?

Build birdhouses to sell to tourists as a friend plans to do?

Or something else?

Sorry, “Existential” in the post title, not the AI idiocy.

Hey alan279,

Just to let you know that the title was corrected. 😉

Great time to travel at your leisure and at a budget to suit...

I'd like to go to China to see the engineering revolution there.

The Department of State has a travel advisory level 2 -> with specific caution on the arbitrary enforcement of local laws.

However, you are welcome to go and see for yourself.  I would recommend taking a group tour that has a certified guide that will bring you to the official tourist sites.  This would be the safest way to see.

Been to many places in China before the current president and never had any problems - even helped local businesses in tech succeed.

My personal opinion here - I will not step foot in any chinese territory because of fear of being detained arbitrarily under the national security law.  There are several people in those situations and life is too short to get involved in super power politics.

I tend to want to explore the nooks and crannies - which is not recommended these days...

Good luck.

Look to this Day,

for it is Life – the very Life of Life.

In its brief course lie all the verities

and realities of your existence:

the Bliss of Growth,

the Glory of Action,

the Splendor of Beauty.

For yesterday is already a dream

and tomorrow is only a vision;

but today, well-lived,

makes every yesterday a dream of happiness

and every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Look well, therefore, to this Day.

Such is the salutation of the Dawn.

Play pickleball. For fun (although the younger whippersnappers haven't quite grasped that concept yet).  I'll play for an hour or so, usually 4 times a week, then retire with my cohort of over-60s to a table by the river and enjoy the conversation practice and a cold one.  No tournaments until it cools down again.  I also count my blessings.
