Residence Card Processing Time

sovelong

I'm talking about picking up the physical card from the Policia Federal in SP. I already had the appointment and everything was approved.

On the SISMIGRA site it has said this since April 8th: Seu documento foi produzido e está em trânsito. Aguarde a informação de recebimento para retirada na unidade de atendimento DELEMIG/DREX/SR/PF/SP.

It can't have possibly been in transit all this time. I can't tell if it's just bad UI/UX with that message and it'll eventually update to say it's ready to pick up. Does it seem like there's an issue? Anyway to contact the Policia Federal in SP about it via phone/email or do I just need to go ask about it in person?

Hi @sovelong,

Over the years at Lapa, SP, I have heard them saying people to come back to pick it up in 30 days, in 45 days, or once even in 60 days.

Normally when it's ready to pickup, a short contact form appears on that page for you to fill in.

I don't know how is the average recently but it could be just within their regular delays. If it's already 60 days from your appointment though, maybe you can indeed ask them or maybe go directly to the CRNM pickup desk

sovelong

Yeah, I asked them at my appointment and they just said come back in 45 days. Then I asked them about checking the status on this site and they didn't seem to know what I was talking about and again said just come back in 45 days. Eh, just hoping it's ready by the end of the month because I have a trip abroad.

@sovelong I live in the Northeast, and it was a year ago, but I believe it was about 5 weeks.

P.S. I stopped believing in accurate website information around the time I learned Santa Claus was not real. 🙄

My first RNM card took around 3 months.. I had to travel with the paper 😅

thetravelfox

@dfray (or anyone) - on that note, did you come back through the estrangeiros line with your paper CRNM/protocolo doc, or the CRNM (this it still says RNE...) line with the Brazilians?

I'l be confronting that in a few weeks.  Poking around around suggested I should still go through the estrangeiros line until I get the real ID, but show them the paper CRNM protocolo doc, visa in the passport, etc.

Thank you.

@sovelong

When I had my interview in SP, the agent told us my RNM card would be ready in about 30 days, and it was, exactly 30 days.

@thetravelfox Good Luck! My wife and my lawyer picked it up for me. I do not plan to leave the country and use it for several years....    I do have some great YouTube videos of navigating around Sao Paulo airport, but that is the closest I will get there for a while.

I flew back into Brazil a couple of weeks ago (into the new international terminal in Recife for my first time), and, as normal, lined up with the Brazilians as I have a permanent visa. But I was redirected to the foreigners line, as my passport still had to be stamped, and all the Brazilians were using digital reading technology to show their passports - no stamps...

roddiesho

@Peter Itamaraca Good to know! I would normally request feedback from our resident EXPAT.COM expert, but in reality, I will always be me.... An American Living the Good Life in Brazil...i would always go to the American aka Foreigners line anyway.

To answer my own question:

I was directed to the "Brazilians/RNE" line today at GRU with my paper protocolo and no CRNM yet (although it's apparently "in transit to the Lapa office.)  I did kind of muck things up though as I foolishly only brought the protocolo and my passport.  The agent processed me but said I should have had some other doc too -- I am guessing the one the consulate gave me when they issued the visa.  Oops.  Hopefully I can get back in next week! 😂

sovelong

Well, I've passed the 45 day mark and will just go to the Policia federal next week to ask in person. I have the temporary paper they gave me but that paper says it's validity expires in July. If it's not ready to pick up by the end of next week I'll have to travel internationally without it and will return after July 1st. Fun. Well, fingers crossed it's ready by then and if it's not then we'll see how it goes returning with the expired paper.

I sent you a pm about this and also posted about the problems correios is going through. Basically, they have not been paying their contractors and they stopped delivering for many days. Then restarted payments and some deliveries resumed. However, the truckers have threatened to stop again late this week. For example, I had a package shipped April 15 via sedex which finally arrived May 19th. It originally was scheduled to br delivered April 24th. I have another which was shipped May 8th which is still late. From what I have read, they are prioritizing sedex for now and other postal products are still not being delivered. It’s hard to find information except for instagram and facebook because the mass media seems to be avoiding coverage. Your card delivery may be caught up in this mess. Here’s a link to a story about late passport deliveries. MidiaNews

My card could be caught up in that but it's said, "Seu documento foi produzido e está em trânsito. Aguarde a informação de recebimento para retirada na unidade de atendimento DELEMIG/DREX/SR/PF/SP." for 50 days.

Hopefully it's actually there and the site just never updated but saying that for 50 days sounds like it must have gotten lost in the mail or something. In any case, if it's not there this week I may try to have someone else pick it up for me so they can mail it. Or maybe even if someone could just pick it up then send a picture of it to me to show border patrol when I return.

@sovelong I received my RNM in Feb 2022. I did the interview in Juiz de Fora, MG. They gave me a temporary approval and said to expect the card in 30-45 days.

At that time and location the PF required the applicant to physically pick up the card. When I received notice that the card was ready I traveled 10 hours by bus R/T to pick up the card. But upon arrival I was told that the card had been sent to a different city. So, I had to return two weeks later and pick up the card.

It was yet another reminder about the slow bureaucracy in Brazil. But they were nicer than the US driver’s license and passport offices that I have experienced!

thetravelfox

Just an FYI that my CRNM was ready for pickup in SP two days ago (about three weeks after my initial visit to the Policia Federal for processing).  While attempting to schedule a pickup appointment was fruitless, I received the following response to an inquiry I sent in a matter of a few hours.

The executive summary: No appointment is needed for pickup in SP.  Off to Lapa I go later today.
