I've been here in Rio for just over 3 months now and personally I've been finding it quite difficult to find a job. I am from England originally but want to live and work here and although I have over 10 years experience in IT (or TI as they call it here), so far I've found nothing.

I think the language is definitely something you should get going on as soon as possible if you're serious about coming here for any amount of time. Although a lot of young people here have great English, I've found that most waiters, taxi drivers, bus conductors, etc have none. And besides, if you want to move to a country you should show that you're making some effort to assimilate - people really appreciate it. And in addition, life is SO much more fun when you can join in the conversation and chat to the locals. Wouldn't be much point in coming all this way just to restrict yourself to 暗网禁区s eh?

Hey tom, cool peace of advice.ive been thinking to make a move to brazil as well.but am in to engineering!!!
so how likly wuld it be to find a job related to my field ???
i have basic spanish knowledge thou...
any help apprciated.

it would be a good idea to at least know some portugues before you come. Of course, these other languages are really important but unless you come with some contact or prospect to a certain company it can be quite difficult to find something.

I've had a different experience here in Brasil. Maybe I was lucky, or maybe I was in the right place at the right time. Im an Information Architect and UX Consultant and I moved to Brasil in Spt. I was hired at a digital strategy company- originally from Spain- here in S茫o Paulo in Nov so...Im working on my field since then. Although Im native in Portuguese and also Spanish, so maybe that helped me a lot :S

Im sure Brasil has lot of jobs to offer (specially in IT field - Rio is not a good example because the city is majorly focused on tourism), but u should consider they prefer to work with locals because foreigns here are not the "new thing". And they certainly appreciate your effort to get fit into their culture and language. So if u really want to come, start with you portuguese lessons ASAP.
