I want to be married with my gf.

Farhanrazaq57

Hello Sir,
Currently I'm living in Pakistan and my gf is in brazil. We are thinking about getting married.
Tell me what should I do now should I ask her to come to Pakistan and get married here or I should go to Brazil.
Please I really need your wise piece of advice.

I am hiring one lawyer in Brazil and one in the USA ....marriage is a contract, not a sacrament ....you need to know what is in the fine print, what it does to your taxes in each country, your estate, your freedom of movement, your freedoms to buy and sell real estate, to work in a place, citizenship, etc ....
If people were taught at an early age what marriage really does to them, a lot fewer would do it .....

I'm Sorry Sir I didn't understand your point.
Please guide me more.

Can I get a job there, I've Master degree in Human Resources. And I am experienced professional. I'm fluent in English.
Should I be good with Portuguese too?

I have a significant estate in the USA, income, property, capital gains, etc.....and a girlfriend in Brazil, and a general inclination towards transfering assets from the USA to Brazil ....I still need to procure an RNM in Brazil, but I understand that I may have already crossed the line of "common law marriage" in Brazil although it certainly would not hold up in any US court of law ....Ive got all kinds of little issues to hash out ...is there any way that any US court could adjudicate any claims to assets of mine located in Brazil, either for tort suits or estate claims?  Is there any way the Brazilian courts can levy income taxes against any part of my assets based upon my relationship with my Brazillian girl friend?  How can I ensure that my girlfriend is never able to emigrate to the USA and claim permanent residency based upon her marriage status to a US citizen?  Does she have standing to bring action in a US probate court?  My motorcycle in Brazil is titled in her name, can I be sued in Brazil for liability in accidents?  I could go on and on.  Brazil and the US have very few reciprocal agreements so its all very messy.  I do not know anything about Pakistani law but it could be just as complicated .....

Chistletoe,

We addressed many of those issues in a pre-nup, that's registered at the Brazilian Consulate General in Chicago and the cartório here.   PM me if you'd like to talk about details.  :top:

Hi, Farhan,

Two initial questions:
1. Have you and your girlfriend spent face-to-face time together in the same place, or do you only know each other online?
2. Which country do you plan to live in after marriage, Pakistan or Brazil.
Knowing those two things will make any advice more relevant.

With respect to employment,  if you move to Brazil, learning Portuguese MUST be Job #1 for you, after you apply for permanent residency with the Federal Police.   Brazil is a functionally monolingual country, and you will not be able to obtain professional work of any kind, or probably any other work outside the informal economy,  without a good command of the language.
